Holy crap I almost regret ordering the A4 Avant... But nah, I still need the space and I need it sooner than this will be available. This looks sooooo awesome, I love it. No point in getting a sedan when you can get this.

A5 should have been called an A6 coupe to begin with.
now the A5 fastback/5door should be called the A5 [period].. it only makes sense.
A3 = should have started with the euro 3door then later move on to the A3 estate
A4 = no complaints but moving kinda close to the TL/RL syndrome
A5 = A6 coupe (didn't make sense to call it by a different name)
A5 5door = A5
A6 = current
A8 coupe = due to effedup economy = no fruition
R8 (4.2) = shoulda tried a light weight V6
R8 (5.2) = just buy teh big brother

What Would Don Draper Do?
the A7 is what i assumed would be the car competing against the CLS and BMW's future 4 door coupe.
and the whole 4 door coupe is just nonsense to me. and especially when the A5 is supposed to be the coupe version of the A4. but maybe i'm just thinking too much into it.
but it is hot. looks better than the A4, i think.

Fourtitude has a huge write-up on it, talks about every single detail of the car:

I love this car. The slightly bulging back reminds me of the Lexus GS, I liked it in that car except in this car it's actually a useful design, unlike the GS' tiny trunk.

OK, am I the only one that thinks this Audi A5 "sportback" is the VW Passat CC?

Have you seen the CC in person? In term of size and style, it's nowhere near the A5.

So i'm still confused too. Is this a 4 door coupe? But it doesn't have a trunk like the CLS or VW CC. It looks more like a hatchback. So does "Sportback" = hatchback?
Either way, it looks good, but I would still get an A4 Avant instead if I wanted something for utility or function.

Even Audizine people don't know what this is...
Because the Sportback isn't coming to the USA.
To me it looks more like A4, inside and out, but I guess calling A5 and they can charge you more for it.
The key reason for this: it looks like a sedan, but can hold an odd shape box with the seats folded: "In its standard configuration the luggage compartment has a volume of 480 liters (16.95 sq ft). If you fold down the rear seat backs – an effortless procedure – this increases to 980 liters (34.61 sq ft)."
So if you can get A4 avant, why bother with this? well, just one more configuration choice, I guess.
To me, the concept is quite different from BMW's GT. The GT offers more storage, but the key difference is the raised ride height. We all know there's a big customer base who love increased ride height - yes, women, and retired folks.

Why get this instead of an Avant? Because it looks like like a sleek sedan and not like a station wagon. And I'm speaking as someone who's getting an Avant.

On paper, the cargo capacity is identical to that in the A4 sedan at 16.9 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 34.6 cubic feet with the seatbacks flopped forward. Honestly, though, these measurements only account for cargo being loaded up to the level of the windows, and we could find about 50.5 cubic feet of cargo just as in the A4 Avant if we packed it to the rafters, college-style.
Christ... if they had this in Canada right now I'd probably be cancelling my A4 Avant order...

I am so mad that this is not coming to America - this is THE car for me!!! Forget about the ZDX - this is the real deal!!!
What is Audi America thinking? No, you cannot force me to buy the Q5. I am not an SUV fan. Don't force me to get the A4 Avant - that is a hot car too, but still NOTHING when compared to this A5 Sportback, which is 100 times sleeker and sexier!!! Audi America, are you listening???

seriously beautiful- I am generally anti buying sapnking new cars, prefering to at least let someone suck up the first year deprecation, but man, if you had the TDI version of this available , it would almost be impossible to say no...

Audi S5 Sportback
If you're annoyed that the Audi A5 Sportback isn't going to be made available in the U.S., you might as well stop reading now, because this will probably be upsetting to you. Audi has just formally announced the S5 Sportback, which, as you likely gathered, kicks things up with the blown 3.0L V6 that's standard kit in the S4, available in the A6, and will shortly replace the V8 as the motivator under the S5 coupe's hood. Quattro is standard, as is the seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch gearbox; a sport differential can be added at extra cost.
Other standard S-car bits include the metallic-finished mirrors, quad pipes, snazzy S-design wheels (dubs are optional), and polished vertical grille slats. Basically, it's the S5 with two extra doors and a hatchback. It's probably a blast to drive, and it demonstrates that you can turn a standard model into a sporty hatch without going all Crosstour.
Power from the six is 333 horses and 324 lb-ft – good for a 5.4-second run to 62 mph (100 km/h) and an electro-nannied 155-mph top end. Audi says that the powertrain's good a smidge over 24 mpg – with whose grandmother behind the wheel, we have no idea. Inside? You know the deal – it's nice. Starting price when it lands in Deutschland Audi stores this spring will be €57,900, demonstrating that more sensible fun doesn't necessarily come on the cheap. Check out a slew of additional pics in the gallery below, and the official flowery-language press release after the jump.

I know this won't be available in the US but sweet Jesus its hot. I would take this over the standard A4/S4 anyday. Hell I'd take it over an Avant too. Its so upsetting that they don't offer it here.

Anyway, best of both worlds. The sportsback has the looks of the A5 and seating capacity of the A4. Can't go wrong there and it looks amazing!

Holy shit, I'm glad this isn't coming to NA because I'd have feelings of inadequacy over my Avant...
This is the ultimate car, sporty, gorgeous, not a gas guzzler, practical, and can easily be driven all year round.
