imo, BMW oversegmented the market.

Safety Car
Judging from what can be seen from the spy-pics, this car is based off of the same global platform that the rest of the Acura lineup is using. The interior seems like it's mostly parts sharing with the MDX and the drivetrain, if new, will undoubtedly be utilized for future Acura's. So really, I don't think that Acura really had to invest a great deal of money for the development of this car and it probably won't have anything unique to it that couldn't easily be shared with other Acura's to make up the cost. If the car does flop, I don't think Acura will be at much of a loss money wise.
Any additional sales for acura that requires little investment is the best way to go. they sure as hell dont have the capital floating around.

a lot depends if they keep the RDX for another generation.
I work for Honda and I know i was talking with a corp. rep and they haven't been "thrilled" with the public's responce to the RDX. so if they can the RDX i think the MSX will take it's slot. if they keep it around and "overhaul it" then this will be new "slot"

Acura CDX?
According to Topspeed.com, Acura is working on a competitor for the BMW X6 and Infiniti FX - with coupe-like styling on an SUV platform. Obviously we'd have to see the full specs, but on the surface, would any of you consider this type of vehicle? - full story.
I had to do my own rendering because they basically just took a '09 TL, added a pseudo RDX fascia and a tweaked MDX grille (I included it below for reference)...we all know Acura is sticking with the "blade" grille (as far as know), so the original design needed some tweaking...

the msx will not take the place of the RDX...even if the RDX drops off the lineup...the MSX price is going to be no where near it...maybe the entry suv for Acura will become the MDX...?could make sense, it sells better, and if you think about it, what tier 1 company has a well-equipped SUV/CUV for under 38k? an awd infiniti ex starts around 38k and thats before adding a single thing...it doesnt become very premium at all until u tack on at least 1 opt package...and thats prob the cheapest cuv next to the RDX from an upper tier company
acura has to release this thing, whether it does well or not, thats imo not the point...this truck has been in development for close to 2 years...it wouldnt make sense not to release it and see what happens....with acura trying to get close to BMW/BENZ, they need to start offering cars with more options, more combos, more choices, letting the consumer alter their car so they can actually have their "own" Acura not parked in everyone's driveway....distinction = tier 1, options = tier 1, drivetrains = tier 1, more models to chose from etc.....rabadging Honda's or just improvements over Honda models worked a while ago, but is not working now, and if this is one of a few steps Acura is making to move forward, its commendable from that stand point
cant blame Acura for trying something different, unfortunately, the market has changed quite a bit, this car may be coming at the wrong time, but who cares, its advancing acura, and advancing the lineup, regardless of what kind of vehicle it is...its also probably the first NON-HONDA. By that I mean, its not a CRV turned RDX, its not a Pilot turned MDX, etc etc....its something different and hopefully fresh

Wow, is Acura actually reading the press on the competing vehicles? JFC make a godamm roadster or a coupe already.
Hey Acura....no one is buying the X6...it's a complete failure.

What Would Don Draper Do?
dunno about the drivetrain and the price.
but if it looked like the drawing posted by Type34, i'd definitely consider it. you know, if i wanted an SUV that's not useful like an SUV. i'd expect the TL's grille, however.

For the record, my PS job is basically just a tweak of the Topspeed.com rendering...they haphazardly slapped on a MDX grille and '09 TL wheels, so I changed both to what I would envision Acura producing (given latest design trends).
My original thread was posted in the MDX forum to find out if us MDX owners would buy something like this, it was moved to this thread...

I like the painted wheels. They look nice and wide.
Meh on the rendering though. Don't really care for the whole coupeSUV thing. Acura should be focusing on a either producing two door coupe (with AWD or RWD) or making sure the V8 (AWD) RL looks like the best of all the current and future Acura lineup.

Uggggggly.
I just don't get the Power Plenum stuff. They'd better not screw up the new RL.

yeah, you are right. I think the same. It looks like an Audi Allroad, a taller TL 4GN...
It looks weird.
I don't know in USA, but in Europe the X6 is selling well, but it's ugly like hell, and useless.
And they are not satisfied, now BMW is working to an M version with even more power of the 4.4 biturbo... My God.

Ooooh, this thing is much better looking than the X6! I like the toned down "power plenum" grille too. The whole thing looks very European. I like it!
Sadly, I bet you the real thing will look nothing like this, esp. that grille!!! I think that they will keep using that scary "power plenum" thing across the board... LOL
