Acura: Integra News

I like that better.
Well, they finally got the RLX Sport Hybrid out. I was SURE that was going to be vaporware. Maybe there is something to this NSX thing, too.
Hopefully it won't take another five years to put out an enthusiast's car that the typical Acura buyer can attain.

Yeah. It is. Please tell me what makes the two cars so different.
The GSR is a 2,600lb 1.8l pushing 170hp and 128lb torque.
The ILX 2.4 is making 30 more hp and 40lb more torque while being only 400lb heavier.
Similar disc brake set up. Similar weight ratio.
Similar mpg. Similar wheel base. Similar proportions.
Yeah, the 2.4 is the GS-R of the 21st century.
If you want to claim it's no ITR I'll give you that. But I owned an Integra LS. Now I own a 2.0 ILX. I can tell you from first hand experience how similar modding this car is as well as performance.
I mean, ask most Honda tuners if they would take a K24 or a B18C and they are going to tell you K24 all day.

I'd gladly pay $50k for an Acura that has 350hp, 6mt, AWD, and the reliability that comes with a Honda. Unfortunately that isn't going to happen and as such the only other choices come out of Germany. Cost is not an issue here, the 3 series sells by the hundreds of thousands and at a cost that's higher than both the ILX and TLX. Why? Because it's a better car and worth the money.
Yes, BMW is doing it, but they've been doing it for the better part of 25 years. Acura, who now has a turd of a reputation cannot just come in and drop a car like that. There needs to be build up for it. I assure you, sales numbers will be extremely low.
Sure, Subaru did it with the first STi on our shores, but you forget that at the time, that car was revolutionary, bringing in AWD and that much power. Plus it had a history behind it in Rally and throughout Japan. It's really Surbaru's rally background that got STis selling. People wanted others to think they were badass rally drivers. Acura has nothing, besides the new race TLX which is a far far far cry from an actual stock TLX.

I hate to break the news to you guys, but Acura made a clear statement a little while ago that said they will NEVER put a RWD car out. They absolutely refuse to do so.
They did state, however, that they'll be moving to be like Subaru and pushing AWD on all their cars eventually. I'm not sure if that means that AWD will be an option on all models, or exclusive across the line up.

You'd be one of only a few that would spend 50k on an entry level car. doesn't matter if it puts down 34168973hp, it's still an entry level car and no one will pay 50k for it.

By your logic, the new NSX won't sell either. No one wants to spend $120k on a hopped up Honda. A TLX Type S, or whatever you call it, will not be a volume seller just like the 335i/S4 are not volume sellers. It will be a car for someone who wants the performance and is willing to pay for it.
On a side note, have you looked at the price of a Ford F150? You can't get one with that many features for less than $50k and that's a pickup truck.

Umm... my '88 had about 118 hp pulling just under 2500 lbs. It's a sporty car and handles well for a FWD car, but isn't a sports car in the sense of the CRX-Si, let alone a Miata.
The Integra was based on the Civic chassis, had a little more horsepower, nicer interior trim, a slick manual transmission that was probably a stock Civic item and slightly sportier sheet metal. It looked like a door stop, but I liked the way it drove.

one of my friends had one of these special edition models back in the day - except it was black with gold wheels - it was one of the first "enthusiastic" rides I was on - it may have had only 118 hp but the thing was peppy as f*k. It revved to 7000 rpm redline like a race engine. But if you keep this in mind as a possible intention of going back to this kind of "sport" model, then you can see that it won't take 300 or 350hp to get there. I would guess they will try to keep cost down on this model.

Id really like to see Acura do something crazy such as building an MDX Type-S that rivals the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and the BMW X5M. I feel that even a prototype would encourage the reintroduction of the Type-S Badge into other Acura models. But alas its just a dream. </3

Look at the rsx. They made a type s. That is about as close as Acura was willing to get then and it didn't do what they wanted. Why would they remake the Integra again just to probably do even worse than the rsx did.

But they did make the Integra again, remember?
It's just called an ILX, like you said.
And it is doing worse than the RSX. A lot worse.
Everyone wants a new Integra....
What was the Integra?
a 1.8l dohc NA coupe or sedan making at most 190hp on the ITR
What is the ILX?
a 2.0l sohc NA sedan making 150hp
or 2.4l dohc NA sedan making 201hp
We have an Integra already it just doesn't have a coupe variant. The 2.4 ILX makes more power than the ITR and GSR as well the 2.0 ILX is quicker than the LS and RS.

My dealer included this Integra rumor in their monthly newsletter. Either this points to something more official or they are just as desperate for a new Integra!

The Up to Speed video series has jumped on the Acura Integra and all the VTEC goodness that goes with it. The sadly discontinued front-wheel-drive sporty hatch (and sometimes sedan) is especially dear to my heart, -- I’ve been the proud owner of a 2001 Integra GS-R since I was 15 years old.
From the beginning, the Integra had sporting intentions, but it didn’t become the compact standout it was until Honda added its high-revving VTEC engine into the mix. Unfortunately, the combination of being cheap to buy used and the large aftermarket parts availability meant most of these cars ended up uncared for and beat to a pulp -- If they weren’t modded beyond recognition then they were slowly consumed by rust, especially in the Midwest.
My lightly modified GS-R is a perfect balance between daily driver and occasional track car, but the Type R is the one you really want. The chance to get one cheap has passed, but watch the video above and you might yet be persuaded to pull the trigger.

On what planet is a 350hp manual transmission AWD sport sedan an entry level car? Acura has had a poor reputation since 2009, that's not that bad. Some makes have a MUCH longer poor reputation. Dropping a bomb on the market with a car that's benchmarked on a 335i/S4 at a slightly lower cost but adding in Honda reliability will definitely sell. Also, Subaru still charges absurd prices for the STI and it hasn't grown up a whole lot.
Acura, sell your tarted up Civic for $50K. The world will watch and laugh...... Really.
