Abt Sportsline: RS6-R (based on Audi RS6) News

Press release from Audi...

When you read 730 hp/537 kW, you may first think of an Italian super-sports-car or a big truck but not of a roadworthy family or business estate. But ABT Sportsline is still able to surprise its target group and at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 will present its latest Audi RS6 model, the 320 kph ABT RS6-R. “Mind you, the R stands for racy, not for rough or rude,” says CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt: “As with the normal Audi RS6, ours also provides the utmost comfort, sumptuousness and usefulness, limited to 25 cars worldwide.“

To turn this high-performance car into a refined gem, ABT uses ABT Power. This kit includes the ABT Engine Control unit, a specially developed software and a specially adapted stainless steel exhaust system – including a Y-pipe and sport-type catalytic converter – that makes for a superb sound and an even more attractive look with its two double end pipes.

But power isn’t everything. In order to make the Avant even more of a sports car, the engineers used an ABT height adjustable spring kit. Dunlop high-performance tyres specially selected for the RS6-R complete this dynamic set-up. This inviting features may make it hard for some people to accept that this racy ABT in Geneva can only be viewed while it is standing still. But that may be just as well, because it makes for a better appreciation of the extensive body kit and the lavish 22-inch ABT DR alloy wheels. Selected parts made of exposed red carbon is what all body components have in common: they can be found on the front lip with its blades, air inlet covers including flics, side skirt attachments with side blades and the rear skirt. Mirror caps, fender inserts and a rear spoiler complete the imposing look.

And since passengers would find it difficult to see their car in the rear-view mirror, ABT also “decorated” the interior with letterings and embroidery that are as discreet as they are tasteful. Carbon-shift paddels and LED-shifting lights on the steering wheel help finding the perfect gear shift moment.

I honestly thought the specs were bugs.

Pretty awesome, otherwise.

Post ABT 2020 RS6-R Avant

[UPDATE] ABT has released more details about its latest wagon rocket, which does the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in only 3.2 seconds or 0.4s quicker than the stock model. Top speed has been increased to 199 mph (320 km/h) or 9 mph (15 km/h) more than before. The package costs €69,900 (about $75,600).

It was only last week when the German tuners at ABT unleashed an angry Audi RS7 Sportback and now they’re turning their attention towards its wagon counterpart. The new RS6-R was teased back in early December 2019 and it’s finally ready to show off its aggressive stance thanks to a new body kit with several add-ons made from carbon fiber to keep weight in check.

As if the standard RS6 Avant wasn’t already a menacing beast among wagons, ABT has slapped on a spoiler lip at the front and a redesigned diffuser at the back, along with fender inserts and side skirt attachments. There are no fewer than 10 new exterior parts for the Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate competitor, plus the tuner’s own 22-inch alloy wheels to round off the look. Optionally, those oddly intriguing aero wheels are available.

At the back of the long-roof Audi, the RS-specific dual oval tips have made way for a more in-your-face quad setup with carbon tips as part of ABT’s stainless steel exhaust system. The speedy Avant has gained a tweaked suspension to improve handling while the car is behind pushed hard through the corners.

Much like with the aforementioned RS7 Sportback, the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 generates a mighty 730 hp and 920 Newton-meters (679 pound-feet) of torque. We’ll remind the standard model is not exactly underpowered, delivering 591 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) for a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and a top speed capped at 190 mph (305 km/h). The sprint from a standstill should now be completed even quicker considering the massive power gains, thus further taking the high-performance wagon further into supercar territory even though it weighs over two metric tons in standard form.

ABT hasn’t released pricing details, but it does mention only 125 RS6 Avants will be converted to the RS6-R specification. In the United States, the regular model kicks off from an eye-watering $109,000.

The Kempten-based aftermarket specialists have a soft spot for the RS6 Avant as they’ve built some amazing machines in recent years. We’ll only remind you of the RS6 Avant Performance Nogaro Edition that was actually sold directly by Audi with nearly 700 on tap, and the even crazier 1,018-hp RS6-E hybrid.
