Press release...

Unobtrusive design and powerful appearance - this is what the Abt AS5 stands for. With a discerning eye on the detail Abt enhances the elegant Audi Coupé with its breathtaking, pleasing contours and the stretched flanks. The team from Kempten has managed to upgrade the unique vehicle without changing its character. With the two coloured paint and the Abt body kit, the AS5 appears like a mannequin in an extravagant designer tailor-made suit. The front skirt, in which a grid element accents the front fog lights and the single-frame grill, the strikingly curved lateral parts, the fender insets and the gill-shaped air inlets form a shapely unit. The Coupé is a unique and beautiful car, no matter from which perspective. The rear skirt inset with the diffuser excellently harmonizes with the 4-pipe rear muffler, together with the perfectly designed rear spoiler it accentuates the rear of the vehicle. As ideal complement, Abt recommends the new BR wheel in 20 inch. With its superposed spokes, the wheel seems to rapidly move forward although it is standing still.

The Abt AS5 is not only optically a real sports car. In Essen it is presented with the powerful 3.0 TDI engine which, thanks to Abt Power S, now brings 300 HP (221 KW) onto the road instead of the serial 240 HP (176 KW). The torque of 600 Nm is getting free at already 2400 rpm and provide for shear force in all situations. Also impressive is the acceleration of the self-igniting engine. Exactly 5.3 seconds needs the car from standing still to 100 km/h, the top speed is 264 km/h - values which suit to a sporty Coupé like the Abt AS5. In order that the impressive power remains controllable, Christian Abt, motor sport professional, excellently adjusted the Abt thread sports suspension in detail. And the Abt brake system with discs 380 millimeters diameter powerfully grips.Abt multifunctional sports steering wheel, soft nappa leather grip and carbon look leather adorn the driver's workplace. Abt aluminium pedals and gear shift knob complete the sporty accent in the interior. A successful masterpiece can be seen at the ESSEN MOTOR SHOW, the Abt AS5. The only downside is: It wants to be driven and this, unfortunately, is impossible in the exhibition hall.

Wheels look like they're made by Konig or TSW or some other low tier mfg. They just don't look right on a sporty German coupe.

Press release...

ABT Sportsline has achieved plenty of success with the AS5, which is based on Audi’s A5 - as the coupe has a dynamic and elegant design, is full of technical power and also quick. All this makes it a "real” ABT. Now the company from Kempten has brought out the jewel in this range - the AS5-R. This vehicle is an ab(t)solute super sports car, nothing more and nothing less. Thanks to ABT POWER R, i.e. the change to the engine management and the insertion of an ABT Compressor, the performance is increased by an impressive 156 HP (115kW) to a powerful 510 HP (375kW). The AS5-R reaches 100km/h in 4.5 seconds and continues on powerfully up to its maximum speed of 292km/h. In spite of this enormous increase in performance, consumption and thereby emissions still remain at the level of the series-produced vehicle. CO2 emissions per HP thereby fall from 0.81 to 0.56g/km.

As is normal with ABT, all the components are perfectly adjusted to the enormous power of a top sports car. The ABT braking system with 380 millimetre disc diameter provides maximum deceleration even in extreme circumstances, and the ABT Coil-over suspension system also helps to bring the potential power onto the road. Motor sport professional Christian Abt has perfectionised the interaction of power with his know-how. The result is a top-class driving machine, which is also enjoyable in everyday use and is pleasant to drive on long journeys. The ABT AS5-R is therefore a maximum of a car – and a statement which shows the high level at which the engineers from Allgaeu work.

Its "suit” fits, of course, like a glove: The front spoiler accentuates the ABT grill and the striking section around the fog lights, inner fender skirt and the gill-shaped air inlets provide contours to the side of the ABT AS5-R. They have also succeeded on the side which most drivers only rarely get to see: The rear with the ABT rear skirt and 4-pipe rear muffler shows that this model athlete on wheels is more than “just” a car. The designers of ABT recommend the 20 inch BR alloys as the perfect accessory. Wheel-tyre combinations with height performance tyres are, of course, also available. Only with these accessories can the fast AS5-R safely unleash its power. And it has lots of that.

Post 2009 Abt Audi AS5 Cabrio

Press release...

Sportiness and elegant design are not mutually exclusive – at least when the designers at ABT Sportsline are involved. “It is important to capture the character of the car and emphasise its uniqueness”, says Hans-Juergen Abt, the General Manager of ABT Sportsline explaining the demands which are made on the creative department. The result is a breathtakingly beautiful cabrio, which is recognisable as a real “Allgäuer” not just due to its typical 4-pipe exhaust unit. The front with the ABT grill, which additionally accentuates the area around the headlights and fog lights, the front apron and the side sills – all give the open AS5 even more presence. The rear apron and exhaust unit perfectly suit the optics of the extraordinary vehicle. To round of the successful appearance ABT recommends the cool bold BR alloys in 19 or 20 inch respectively. The company from Allgäu of course also offers complete wheel sets with high-performance tyres.

The AS5 Cabrio is a fresh air sports car, which is also quick in a tailor-made suit. The technicians at ABT Sportsline ensure this. There are currently four performance increase packages available: with ABT POWER, which is the optimisation of the electronic engine management system, the 2.0 TFSI receives a sporty 275HP (202kW) instead of the serial 180 HP (132kW) or 211HP (155kW). With the 2.7 TDI, 190HP (140kW) become a high-torque 230HP (169kW). With the three litre diesel this is increased to 282HP or 207kW (series standard: 240HP / 176kW). The ABT POWER S technology is also available to the V6 diesel with the largest engine capacity, which also employs an ABT turbo charger. 310HP (228kW) then provide superior handling in all situations, and with 610Nm torque it’s full steam ahead. Logically this power also has to be restrained. The ABT braking unit or ABT sports braking unit correspond to the additional performance potential of the AS5 Cabrio and provide the necessary safety reserves in borderline situations.

The open AS5 provides enormous driving enjoyment, especially of course when the sun is shining. But even with the roof closed the beautiful cabrio looks extremely cool. Regardless of whether it is a car for leisure or business – the latest addition from ABT Sportsline is the ideal companion in all situations.

Post 2013 Abt Audi AS5 Sportback

Press release...

There are cars and then there is the Audi A5. The “Sportback” is characterised by an unobtrusively elegant body that makes it really stand out. “The clear design of its stretched, sporty body makes it an utterly wonderful car, a car of its own”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. For the managing director of the globally largest manufacturer of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group, the new A5 is a masterpiece with which the ABT Sportsline philosophy can be perfectly implemented. “The car is very sporty and individual, assertive and dynamic – an ideal basis for our engineers and designers”, he says.

When conceiving the upratings for the ABT AS5, the developers took account of the respective engine's characteristics and saw to full dependability and roadworthiness. The result is a car that gives a lot of pleasure, coming with a guarantee and regardless of which engine you have opted for. There are three turbo petrol engine variants. After having been “ABTPOWERised”, the economical 1.8 TFSI shows 211 hp or 155 kW (serial version: 170 hp/125 kW), the 2.0 TFSI delivers 270 hp/199 kW (serial version: 211 hp/155 kW). Especially impressive is the 3.0 TFSI: 380 hp or 279 kW (serial version 272 hp/200 kW), and a torque of 500 Nm makes this variant a real athlete. For frequent drivers, we recommend the turbo diesel engines, which also get uprated by ABT Sportsline: to 300 hp or 221 kW (serial version: 245 hp/180 kW) and an impressive torque of 570 NM for the 3.0 TDI and torquey 205 hp or 151 kW for the 2.0 TDI (serial version: 177 hp/130 kW).

Rather befitting this extra performance and agility, the creative Bavarian developers also came up with components that underscore the elegant and dynamic character of the ABT AS5: the front lip spoiler and an assertive rear end, including a rear skirt and the four-pipe exhaust, form a unit with the Sportback’s extravagant design. Sporty CR or DR alloy wheels, available in 19 or 20 inches, make the car perfect. Needless to say that ABT also sells them in combination with high-speed tires and wheel spacers.

The ABT Sportsline chassis springs lower the car’s CoG by 25mm, which does not only leave a sportier impression but also gives it more performance precision. This is best done with the sport coilovers that makes for a maximum lowering of 50mm. The driver selects the right setting for any given situation and positions the A5 between a luxurious limo and a racing car. At its limit, the car is made safer by the ABT braking system, which is also fully geared to the uprating. The new ABT AS5 is always an unobtrusively elegant high-end sports car and a real pleasure to drive

I think the emblems on the trunk lid need to be bigger. And those gills better be functional, I want to see them flapping in the wind.
