In the new sound and vision magazine they have a 9 page story about the two. XM has 11 more stations but they both have 4 dance channels. It also says that sirius uses three satellites (only 2 at a time) that fly at a higher angle then XM's satellites. They do say though that "Sirius's sound quality was inferior to XM's - to a significant degree." It is because Sirius uses a form of perceptual coding that takes out part of they music that it thinks you won't notice. Hope this helps.

i had XM Radio in my car, but i didn't like the way it sounded with the FM Mod. if ur going to get xm radio, get a HU that is XM ready. but seriously, i dont think xm radio is worth the money. lets say ur planning to keep ur car for 6 years and u wanna keep the stock HU. here is why:

Pioneer FM903XM $200
Terk TRK-SR2 Antenna w/$30 Rebate $80-$30=$50
Activation Fee $10
6 Years of Monthly Service @ $10 per month $720

Total With Free Installation For 6 Years Of Radio = $980

$980 is w/o tax and with only FM Modulator.

so its up to u to decide if ur radio is worth $1000.

I had the XM installed last week with the same Pioneer FM modulator. It sounds pretty good to me ofcouse I don't play my music that loud anymore. The FM modulator sounds fine with the factory radio & speakers. I agree if you are going to keep the car & plan to change the speakers & all that get a XM radio. I look at the cost this way if you buy music all the time it might not be worth it. I don't buy music that much anymore becasuse the type of music I listen to is getting less play on the regular radio. This is oldies 60s, 70s & 80s RB music. The newer music that I listen does not have as many younger artist making that type of music. The older artist are not making much music anymore. I would go into the stores to buy CDs & found myself paying for older music that was recorded 25 to 30 yrs ago. The music cost the same as the new stuff $11 & $12 for a CD. I have paid sometime $50 or $60 at a time buying older recorded CDs. The XM offers me more choices this is why I got it. I like some of the newer stuff but I am not going to go out & buy a CD for one song that they play on the radio. I have gotten burned a couple of times by this They play one song on the radio & you go out & by the CD& it only has 2 songs that you like. I even like Jazz music more now that I am geting a bit older. I am not going to go out & buy all that Jazz music so XM gives me a few choices with Jazz channels also.

QUESTION : what is the point of you getting XM radio? Are you just looking for more stations or is it for the quality?

If it is for the quality, do not even consider an FM-modulated type.... I say this because FM is only 44kHz whereas XM is 88kHz I believe..... this means better quality of the music and YES you do notice the difference!

There is a systen called IBOC that they are trying to get running. It is a terrestrial system (no sattelites) That uses radio towers to transmit a digital system. The only problem is that it is too much bandwith for AM stations so the FCC hasn't oked it yet. I thought It sounded interesting. They say that AM will now sound like FM and FM will sound like a CD. It will be several years though.
