I want to have XM radio installed in my car but I want to be able to change the channels from the steering wheel ... I've seen many posts but have not seen this particular question answered... what are my available options? Thanks
Andy

You need a steering wheel control interface that will retain original HU control and control the optional product, like this http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/ST...Y_I_p_596.html

But you have to make sure it works with the unit you choose. The unit works with 38-40 KHz IR carrier frequencies... but no list yet...

wow thats sweet! how does that work, does it just copy the frequency of the remote control that came with whatever you're trying to control? How do you program it?

Exactly the item I was going to mention. It is from Pacific Audio Accessorie. You can find them at local shops like AL $ Eds etc....the wait it works is that is splices into the wire coming from the controls. Its just one wire cause the way the unit tells the difference is from the different amounts of voltage coming off of it. Then you need to install the 'eye' Best place for that would be to put it on the inside of the door in which ever compartment you installed the xm radio in. (not and ash or below hu). Then u simply press the program button on the unit and then hold the button u want to train then the button from the remote. You do this until all buttons are programed and you are set. with this unit there is a small switch that allows you to choose between the factory settings and the new ones.

I used the swi-x on my 2003 sierra with my pioneer 6500dvd and it worked great. Everyone was impressed (including the dealer when i bought it and traded it in) that my steering controls were still in tact.

Hope this helps out.....

OK ... so to install the XM Radio it looks like I need to do this:
1. Install SNHOND3 with Audio Harness for Accord Spliced in (read this in a post ... is this correct? I do have Nav)
2. Connect XM Tuner to SNHOND3 / Audio Harness for Accord Unit
3. Connect XM Antenna to XM Tuner
4. Connect XM Tuner to XM Head Unit / Display

Where does the wire for the steering wheel control get spliced into? Does it need to get incorporated / spliced into any of the units above or just into the steering wheel control and if so where?

Do I need anything else? I ask this since I read some posts talking about reduced volume and / or noise when installing this / these...

Is there such a thing as a "dual purpose" antenna one that would work for both XM radio and regular radio? my reception is horrible... or is there another fix?

In case you haven't noticed by my step by step ... I've never done any stereo mods before ... so forgive my ignorance...

No, the only thing that touches the steering wheel wiring is the PAC piece.

The XM radio unit manual will address that process pretty well.

Some people have needed the Ground Loop Isolator (Radio Shack) for noise, some haven't. Worth having it (~$14).

Some XM units have the ability to change their output level and some don't. The question of whether a line driver is always needed is up in the air. Bass Mechanic says that "everyone" he knows has a line driver on their XM radio, but he didn't state whether he's used the output level adjustment in the XM Commander manual. I personally am getting ready to buy one just to satisfy my own curiosity.

BTW, no such thing as a dual purpose antenna, really. The antenna in your TSX is in the rear window, and has an amp in it. We know that some Class D sub amps generate noise that interfere with the amp. You should have that checked out before you add XM...

You can always go to North COunty Mobile (if they're still around) or drive down to La Jolla Audio or Progressive Mobile Electronics and see what they would charge you. Actually, there's a really good shop near Palomar Airport Road that I'm trying to remember the name of... they did the install in the Nissan Skyline that was in Directed's CES show booth two years ago... if you are interested PM me and I'll call someone and get the name of the shop.
