Question xm radio

I want to hardwire my xm power connection under the dash of my 04 tsx so I dont have to use any of the power outlets in the car. Has anyone done this( with the power cord supplied with the xm. and does anyone know which underdash wire (,color power on /off with Key) I could use. Also ground wire color? Or could I just ground to frame bolt?

It might be easiest for you to hardwire the power to the back of the cig lighter adapter. The center wire is hot on accessory, and the outer one is ground. That is all you'll need to do. To check how to disassemble the center console, please read the DIY / FAQs posted at the top of the forum. You will need to remove both the shifter console area (with cupholders) and the top storage pocket to get to the back of the ashtray area.

That's exactly what I did to power my XM roady. It seems to work fine, but I haven't plugged anything into the cig lighter circuit to see if it blows the fuse by drawing too much current. I would make sure you add a secondary fuse inline with the power adapter after you splice off the cig power, a fuse holder is about $3 at autozone.

The extra fuse really isn't necessary. You wont overload it with just the addition of an xm adapter. I'm running a hardwired PS2, radar detector, and dom's unit on those wires, and I use it as the remote turn on signal for my amp. You'll be fine.

Looked up the consol disassembly and I see great potential for scratched molding. How about the center glove box with the other acc.plug? I see some screws on the bottom of it and side. Has anyone taken one out? Does the consol have to be removed anyway? I,m leary of the consol since I put factory fog lights in the car and the hardest part was getting the molding seperated on the steering column without scratches

There is much less chance of scratched molding pulling up the center console than the steering column. If the steering column is your frame of reference for that car, its a bad one, its so fragile. I really marked up my steering column when I separated it to get out the immobilizer for Hondata. However, I've pulled out my whole console probably 4 times with barely a mark.

That said, you can remove the center storage bin's aux port/cig adapter very easily. Remove the bottom mat and there are 2 screws, remove those and swing that plastic piece upward and pop it out of its joints. Then you can disconnect the cig adapter and tap it, but there isn't much slack to work with back there. I still suggest tapping the one next to the ashtray.
