XM Commander Install Question

I've already installed my XM Commander, the question I have though is what is the best place, in your guys' opinion, to supply power to it from? I used the wiring under the steering wheel, which I guess is the ignition. I'm not to comfortable with that, but it seems to work fine....so what did you guys use? Could you please be specific with the color of wires used and location? Thanks in advance!

I'd use the power from the cigarette lighter. It switches on with the car and it couldn't be closer.

Thank!
Would this cause a ground loop if I have a radar detector connected to the cigarette lighter?

It's possible but grounding seems to be mostly black magic. I think I'd give it a try first to see if you get any noise. If so you can just pick up a GLI from Radio Shack and all should be good.

I took power for mine from the actual radio harness.. power, ground and acc. Just get a wiring diagram for the right color wires.. and make sure you're adept at splicing and soldering in a confined space.

I don't think I have the skill to do any confined soldering...on board is one thing, but not in confined spaces. One question though....this is really newbish so I'm embarassed...what does "acc" stand for? Thanks I just know I hooked that wire up and it works.

Oh, the ACC wire is the "accessory" or switched power wire. It just turns the device on when you turn the car on (if you left it on when you turned the car off).

I tapped into the aux power jack in the middle console for my acc since my commander module is under the drivers seat and the control mounted in the sunglass holder. And I tapped into the fuse box for a hot 12 volt for the other power cord. Also I am using 2 ground loops because I have a line driver hooked up.

Deelover: how did you route the control cable up to the sunglass holder? I'm trying to decide between up there and the not an ashtray area. how annoying is it to point the remote up so high? how is the viewing angle for the display?

On the "other TSX forum" hip has done a great writeup in the DIY section in a thread called "TPMS Anyone?".
