Which would be a better sub?
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the jl 10w7 (or maybe 12w7). Are these powerful enough that a single w7 speaker would sound like 2 w6's or infinity perfects? I was wondering if it would save trunk space to install a w7 instead of two woofers of another type?

JL's are good, but the infinity perfects are totally under rated. I was going to get the infinity's but i got a good deal on polks. Def get the infinity's. what kinda amp r u gonna push the system with?

I have 2 12w7's...as does my younger brother. A 12w6 will beat an Infinity 12.1, though I prefer the SQ of the IP's. Yes, a 12w7 is a serious improvement over the w6. I would say it's about...60% louder than a w6...though I don't have the physical dB ratings with me (haven't compared the two yet aside from just by ear). I would get a single 12w7. It's smaller than 2 10w6's, and hits louder than them. Two 12w6's can handle about 500W each...while the w7 can handle about 1500W. So I think it's a good buy.
Get the Rockford amp...Kicker is not made well. I would consider it a whole class lower than Rockford Fosgate. If you can get the old body style Rockfords...if not get the new body if you get a good deal...or a PPI or Phoenix Gold.
If you lived closer...I would just suggest you drive down here and listen. I may be up around you competing in July...you're welcome to come by then. My brother just had to have his rear windshield resealed...if that tells you anything . He's running the two JL 12w7's off of 2 RF 1500bd amps...and hit around 160 or so without tweaking.
CLUofI:
The 10" series JL sub that you're referring to then must not be a w7...I would expect a w6 or w3.

No offense bud...but without a doubt you have no clue what you're talking about. The Adire Audio Brahmas are great...don't get me wrong...but their pushing linear excursion is far from everything. I would be happy to take my 2 12" JL w7's in my bandpass box up against a pair of Adire Audio Brahmas any day...in fact I plan to. I really doubt you've even heard the new w7's. Not only that but you're not answering his question he didn't ask about the Brahmas...he asked about the w7's.
Titand19:
I agree with you...Infinity's are underrated...but they are a SQ sub...Harmon Kardon (the maker of Infinity) is more than willing to admit that. A JL 10w7 can compete with an Infinity Perfect 12.1 in terms of SPL.

Let me speak from experience here. I had 2 10" Infinity perfects in my ride, and although the SQ was very good, the sub wasnt fast enough. This was a huge problem, because you can tell the sub was lagging behind.

Yes, I actually tried 2 different types of boxes, as well as 2 diff amps. Some of these subs cant keep up with the music I listen to, and the perfects were one of them.

Strange...I haven't had that problem. Sounds a lot more like a box problem to me. Did you have the right size box etc?

I have 2 a/d/s 312rs.2s in a sealed 1.25 enclosure(and 1 pound of polyfill) for each sub. Very accurate, bad ass SQ, gets loud enough, but you wont come close to the SQL levels you would get form JL or Infinity.

Nicky Pass:
Take the Xmax of each sub times the Sd (effective piston area)...you get something around .001m^3 versus .00054m^3...and you're looking at a 37% increase in just EAM (effective air movement). That's not even counting the higher responsiveness from a larger B field b/c of the larger magnet and wattage, as well as the movement of the cone with the new surround...
