wiring question
wiring question
so my friends and I were wiring my amp back to my box and found out that when we wire like this:
positive-negative
negative-positive
instead of
positive-positive
negative-negative
it sounds a lot better. I'm not sure why, it could be because i wired the box wrong but i'm about 95% sure i didn't. If i am actually running it from negative-positive, is this damaging to the amp/sub?

Is this a single voice coil woofer?
If it is, you have discovered that reversing polarity can make a big diff in SQ for a woofer, especially in a sedan. Always worth trying, and no, no harm at all.
Does this mean that the hifonics you were trashing is working fine?

i'm pretty sure its that way unless i wired the box wrong which i don't think i did. But wiring it this way gives cleaner/better bass.
The the two VCs are in "phase" with each other and reverse-polarity in regards to the amp than the way they were before... so my earlier post applies.
BUt if you had toe two VCs out of phase before, that would have sucked totally.

looks like you just did a parallel reverse polarity ..
just for info .. way you can tell polarity is this .. get a battery or some low voltage battery ..
connect speaker wires to the speaker .. use the other end and touch the battery. notice the initial movement of the woofer ..
--- if it moves up ... then what ever wire set up you have will yield the correct polarity
--- if it moves down .. then it's reverse
example .. Terminal 1 -----speaker wire----- (-) of battery
................ Terminal 2 -----speaker wire------ (+) of battery
the cone moves up ... then terminal 1 is indead the negative terminal and terminal 2 is the postive one.

................ Terminal 2 -----speaker wire------ (+) of battery
the cone moves down ... then terminal 1 is indead the postive terminal and terminal 2 is the negative one.
