Been working on my video on navi install... going great so far, but, when I got my PS2 hooked up, it makes all kind of noise when it's turned on (through the stereo).

I've got it hooked directly into the factory system using the sony switch.

Things I've tried.

1. Plugging the power in outside the car (instead of using DC to AC inverter). PS2 is now quiet when it's not powered up, but when it's powered up it makes noise. When the unit is plugged in using the inverter, it makes noise no matter whether it's turned on or not.

2. Ground loop isolater. No effect.

3. Noise filter from radio shack that goes in line on the power. No effect.

Any ideas on what to try? I really do not want to use a RF modulator.

 

Once you get noise from direct hook up, I doubt you can get rid of it using a RF modulator. The ground loop isolator only help if you have whinning noise which varies with the engine rpm. Regarding in-line noise filter. It seems to me that you may need 2 or even 3 of them. Try it 'till it goes away in this order.
1. Sony switch box.
2. Main power wire for Head unit.
3. DC-AC converter.

I had noise problem trying to use DC voltage adapter for my portable DVD playter but the noise the bad so I switched to DC-AC converter and got no noise.

 

Try beefing up the ground of the PS2. Also make sure your wires are run correctly and eventually get a new HU or pre-amp
