Who else makes touch screen navi monitors?

I regret not buying the OEM navi, but now I need it. I'm looking to buy aftermarket from Soundtrack. Kenwood was the only navi screen that was touch screen. I don't trust Kenwood. Does any other company have touchscreen?

Hey Evol, I am a part time sales rep for Kenwood USA car and home audio/video. Why is it that you don't trust Kenwood? I can tell you from first hand experience that the Kenwood Navigation unit is excellent, and reliable. I will be putting one in my vehicle very shortly. I already have the KVT-910DVD, which is the tuner/cd/dvd/tv all in one unit. You can also add a changer and it has 2 A/V input outputs. And the Navigation is a direct addon which works with the touchscreen. I highly doubt you will be finding any touchscreen navigation mobile units anytime soon. The reason is that Kenwood has a patent on the touchscreen technology. There are currently no other mobile video units that offer the touchscreen option as far as I know. I think that the new Toyota Landcruisers, or one of their SUV's has a touchscreen nav in it, but that is derived from Kenwoods unit. The Kenwood nav is the DNA2100 i think, and all the Kenwood excelon products offer 2 year warrantees. Check out the local Tweeter stores if there is one near you or any mobile electronic specialty store nearby, most have the KVT-910DVD's on display, but the Nav won't be on display for a few months, because they can barely keep them in stock, but just tell them that you want one, and they will be able to order it for you. let me know if you have any problems or questions

Well I don't trust Kenwood, because when you say electronics or car stereo. Most of the company you hear about is Sony, Fosgate, Cerwin, Alpine, Panasonic...If I'm wrong I'm sorry, but I will check out the Kenwood once more.

Well I work for an independent repping company, so I am not biased towards Anything. I have used the Kenwood, Alpine, Audiovox, and Pioneer Navigation units. The Kenwood is by far the easiest and most comprehensive. And about those other companies you mentioned, sure they may be well known, but that doesn't mean a thing. Everyone knows what Bose is, but that doesn't mean they are any good. Our company also reps for Cerwin Vega, they only sell speakers, subs, and amps. Sony is nothing but mass produced electronics unless you go to their ES line or higher. They tried getting the Navigation into the US back in the early 90's but failed miserably. They are coming out with their unit within the next few years. Rockford Fosgate makes amps, speakers, subs, headunits and equalizers/crossovers, no nav units. Panasonic is coming out with their nav unit next year, but will not be anywhere close to the Kenwood unit. Alpine "was" the strongest Nav manufacturer until this past year. Audiovox, Pioneer, and Kenwood have all released their Nav units which are just as good if not better than the Alpine unit. Your best bet is probably the Kenwood or Alpine unit. Being that the Kenwood unit is touchscreen and easier to use, and that the Alpine has been proven to be a success, and both are DVD rom based.

This years Kenwood 7" screen the LZ-701 will NOT work with the Navigation because it is not touchscreen. The compatible units are the KVT-910DVD which includes the cdplayer, radio, tv, dvd player, single din in dash, etc etc, is about $2,400 right now. Last years 7" screen the LZ-700W will work and can be found on closeout at Tweeter and such for I've seen as low is $688, probably lower if you buy with the Nav. You can also use this years 8" screen the LZ-801W which is about $1200. The Nav costs $2300.

For state-of-the-art navigation systems don't forget to look at Pioneer's AVIC-9DVD. It doesn't have touch-screen, but it does have 3D views, voice recg. and interface to Cue.net for live traffic routing.

I'd totally go for Kenwood...those are what I've always installed with touchscreens...unless you want to go my route of making your own (sounds hard...really easy) and running it off a computer....

Chen, I'd be interested in talking with you. I actually have some questions for the Kenwood audio guys...maybe even ask you guys about sponsoring or other misc. things.
