Where to mount Crossovers?
Where to mount Crossovers?
Im getting ready to install Alpine type X components in my 02 tl and was wondering if i should just mount the crossover inside the door somehow or if theres somewhere better. And if anyone has suggestions on running new wire to the door speaker through the boot it would really help out.
Personally, if you're having a hard time finding a space for the crossovers, just move them to the trunk and run more wire. Although it will cost a little more, and you'll have to run more wire, it'll put the crossovers in a safe place where you don't have to worry about them. As far as putting them in the doors, you use the doors a lot, and if they're not mounted properly... ect ect.
As far as running wire through the boot, the best idea would be to disconnect one side of the boot and just feed it through. If you do not disconnect the boot, it's a tough job. Since wire is pretty soft, you might want to try feeding some metal wire through there, and tape the speaker wire to the metal wire and drag it through... although it might get caught. Either way, I wish you luck with it.

got mine in the panel thing under the steering wheel, one there and one under the one by the glove box, pretty easily accessible, jsut gotta pop two tabs out to get to it if i ever needed to. this pic wasn't taken for the xover persay, but you can see it in the back as to where its at

Why?? There are no effects of running the crossovers close or far away. As long as you run decent size wire, you do not have to worry about signal loss. Putting them in the trunk makes for easy access. But, it also means running 4 long lengths of wiring, 2 per driver per side. Other than that, no real difference.
