where does everyone have their radar det. mounted?
Hey guys, I just bought the Passport 8500 the other day with the hardwire kit and am wondering where to mount it. I have it in the middle of my windshield now, and I don't really like how people can see it, especially cops. What does everyone here do with theirs?

take it apart... mount the rear sensor in ur third taillight... and then mount the front sensor and hide it in ur rearview mirror... then put the unit itself in the ashtry.. so when u need it just flip down the ashtray and all ur readings come out there... i saw kenny do this on his TL.. very sweet...

I will take detailed pics when I do it myself, anyway. If it work's they'll be worthwhile

lol...........taking it apart is not an option for me........I was thinking about up near the rear view mirror, however I was wondering if the factory tint strip would hinder the performance of the unit.

well as long as the tint strip is not magnetic... cause i know my friend's father bought the new 745il... and he had the ezpass behind the strip and since it was magnetic, the signal would not pass through.. thus at the end of the month.. a stack of bills... same thing with the radar... so as long as it is just a tint.. u can put it behind there.. i never had a problem with the factory strip..

I just have mine attached to the driver-side visor using their visor clip, but had the hard-wire installed so I don't have any dangling wires. Did that so I can just plug it into my other car on road-trips.

I did the install myself. I posted a long description of how its done way back when I did the install. If you do a search, you can find it. It was done about a year ago. I was a professional installer for 15 years, but anyone can do it if they have at least medium skills and an eye for details. The radar started as a Whistler 3300.
