What is your opinion on this set up?

I'm getting ready to update my system and I want a nice SQ setup. I'm Going with:
Head Unit- Pioneer DEH-P8400MP
Mobile DVD- Pioneer AVH-P7480DVD 7" widescreen
Amps- Alpine MVR-F450 5/4/3 Channel amp?
Interior speakers- Not too sure on?
Sub(planning on having a custom box built) not too sure on the speakers, I was thinking on going with either:
JL Audio 10W6(2)
Alpine SWR-1041D(2)
Kicker C10VR4 10"(2)

Do you guys think of this set up, I'm really into SQ. I'm not into loud car shaking bass, that's y I'm going with 10's instead of 12's. But your help on the items with question marks and the right subs to go with would help.(if you guys feel that I can go with a better setup, please suggest it before I spend my bread)THANKS A MILL....

I'm gonna go with the JLW7 10" but only 1, that should be good enough.

How about an Image Dynamics IDQ 10? I have one that's ported and it creates a ton of bass while also being able to hit very deep notes. IDQ arguably has the best SQ out there. And get this, it's only housed in a one cubic foot box!

Also, you won't have to buy a high wattage amp to drive it. 250-300 watts is more than enough.

Correct that the IDQ is a great sub but not in the same class as the W7. If you got the $$$ get the W7. Why not use JL300/4 and 500/1 or IF u want alpine (my fav) Get a MRD500 and MRV340 I believe( the one with 55x4). But then if u get hte MRD500 u wont be able to use the W7 to full potential. Damn why did JL have to make the woofer 3ohm. Well IF I was JL i would probally do the same thing so people would buy my amp to.

From reading Napsoner's description of what he wants in a system, the IDQ would be a good fit, IMHO. He said that he's into SQ, not loud car shaking bass. Now if everyone is saying that an IDQ is not in the same class as a JL W7 in terms of SPL, then I would agree...no comparison. However, I've auditioned a W7 and I can honestly say that there did not seem to be much of a difference in sound quality to me, but I digress.

As an alternative, how about the IDMAX? I heard that they are coming out with a 10 inch version in the next few months. Differences between it and a W7 are much harder to make when it comes to both SPL and SQ. However, an IDMAX is much cheaper!

master g i total agree with you... and i would love to see what that new 10 idmax is going to sound like...

dnd the reason jl made there speakers that way or at least this is what they say... to achieve maximum performance... but as for the 3ohm load its not really a big deal... any 4 ohm amp should have no problem handling this load... but personally i love the way jl did there mono amps... they are the same power across the board... so you dont have to worry about bringing the amp to achieve maximum output...

Napsoner if you are not into loud car rattling bass then you might want to get the w7...

Shawhite I think that just might be the sub to go with, thank ya'll for all the replies. So the JLW6 10(2) would hit good? I have another question though, Master-G you stated that you ported your box. Where did you put the port?

The port is pointing up to the empty hole from removing the stock sub. I would post some pictures, but I don't have a digitial camera.

BTW, the JL W6 is a great choice. I assume it's a version two or are you saying two W6's? :toothless

Master G I'm saying 2 w6 10" in a ported box. People tell me that I should not port the box I should have the subs face the trunk. It would sound better but I dont think so. How does your car sound ported through the rear deck?

if you get 2 10w6's they will hit harder than the 1 10w7 and if the box is constructed correctly then it will sound great ported thur the stock sub hole...

As a general rule, a sealed box will produce better SQ as opposed to one that is ported. However, a port that is properly tuned will not lose any significant sound quality. Since the W7 is an excellent SQ sub, you might want to just use one of them and port it up to the rear deck. That way you'll have a good mix of SQ and SPL.

As far as my setup is concerned, I have no complaints in either area. I had a professional construct my sub box and he did a great job. Just make sure that the port is properly tuned or you'll get horrible sounding bass.

I had 2 15'' Kicker L7's in my TL with a kx1200.1 and it bumped the **** outta everything. I set off alarms 15 ft away with my trunk open and everything. If you want JL, i'd go for one w7 10'', i heard that **** in a beamer, god damn that **** is ****ING LOUD, but of course, you gotta power it right. 3 12'' JLw6's BUMP if you got the PPI2200 i think.
