installation of a subwoofer? if so, use 3/4" mdf. stay away from particleboard because it will shake apart.

Medium Density Fiberboard. Solid stuff, cuts and shapes pretty easily (its tough on bits/blades though). Use sharp bits and carbide tipped saw blades. It will split pretty easily if you do not predrill holes for screws (use coarse thread screws...I used the galvanized ones). Soaks up water like a sponge...I would seal it with Kilz or something before final install.

You should be able to find it at any hardware and lumber store (Lowes, Home Depot, mom-and-pop lumber yards). Usually 4'x8' or 2'x8' sheets, 1/2" or 3/4" thick.

Read up on good box building techniques and bracing.

For that woofer you should nothing less than 3/4" MDF. Remember to use inside measurements for box volume not the outside measurements.

I meant its available in 4'x8 or 2'x4' sheets in 1/2" or 3/4" thicknesses.

I agree that you should use 3/4" thick minimum for 12" subs.

Yes MDF is very good for building enclosures, but if you wanna do it the professional way, use Baltic Birch. Do a search on the web for it and you'll see how many car and home audio builders use it. It's expensive, but it doesn't warp, crack, bend, split......

Yup, that's the point. The more dense the material the better. MDF is still a very good material.

that front panel is just for looks, the actual box is behind that. And the box is bolted down. Is that what you were asking?
