What size amp wires?

For those you powering two amps, are you guys running two seperate 4ga wires or running one 4ga wire to a distributor? also, if you're running just one wire to a distributor, would a 4ga wire be enough or should I use a 1/0ga wire?

I'm powering a JL 300/4 and a JL 500/1.

i think u could get away with a 4ga to the distributor without any issues... but it also depends how far you are traveling...

I've got the same setup with amps and I have a 4awg to a distributor into two more 4awgs and it works fine. a 2ga or 0ga IN would be ideal, but with just about 1000watt output between the two amps, 4gauge works fine. I believe my installer said a 4ga distrubuted can handle up to 1200-1300 cleanly, but if you didn't order any of your wires yet you might as well get a 2ga/4ga for future upgrades, or just to be safe

edit: and get a fused distrubition block, saves the hassle of all the soldering etc if the fuse ever blows; you could just take the fuse out ofthe block and swap it easily

Those are pretty low power demands, I ran 2 x 4 AWG for my amp setup but it's not needed. A 4 AWG should be enough to a dist block, just make sure you run 4 guage to both the amps from the DB

if you decide to upgrade later on... why not just do it once and get 1/0?

I don't really think I'll be upgrading later. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with my setup. I just want some Clean sound a little bass.

Speaking of wiring kits, I have the same amps, and am wondering what a good kit would be. I see in this thread that TC bought a stinger kit. Are these good? My local store has the JL wiring kit, but it is around $200. Is this the price range I'm going to be looking at? Thanks!!

a lot of people recommend kicker or knukonceptz.com. I would buy online rather than at the store because you'll find prices at about 50%+ less than what you would find at the store for the same item.

cool, thanks! I've been looking at the XB-PCS4-2 from JL Audio:

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...l.php?cat_id=9

It says that it is for up to 700W RMS. The 300/4 and 500/1 amps *can* produce 800W RMS. Do you all think that it would be worth going up one notch, or do you think that 4AWG to a distribution block and then 8AWG for these amps is sufficient? Thanks everyone!

Here's a good chart for future reference:

Thanks! From that chart, a 4AWG main power wire to a distributuion block, and then 8AWG to each amp appears to be solid...
