What the hell is this?
What the hell is this?
I was on a 3 hour drive in my 99 tl and I was playing a cd. All of a sudden the cd stops and I look down on the unit and it said --Ht. (I still have the stock unit in the whip).I ejected the cd and I noticed that it was hot and so was the unit, I put the cd back in and it showed the same error display. I'm assuming that it's because the deck was hot, but I have driven on the highway before on a long ride like this and never had a problem playing the unit for a long time.
Plus I wasn't even 3 hours into the ride yet I was halfway at my destination(maybe an hour and a half left to go) and the unit went on the quacks. Does anyone know what the hell is this or has this happen to anyone of yall?

That means your radio got too hot. I hate when this happens. I had the dealer replace mine thinking it was a defect in my headunit. It turns out my new one did the same thing. I know it's really annoying. It happens to me when I blast music for ah hour or so...

Were you CRANKING the headunit at FULL VOLUME? DO you have aftermarket speakers? Any other mods to the stock audio system?
I was not pleased to find out how hot the stock headunit runs in the stock system. The output devices are too hot to touch after a half hour with the volume up to "20 clicks". So while it may be a dumb thing for the overall design to be so underpowered as to have no thermal headroom... IT IS A GOOD THING that it has a high temp shutdown! Otherwise the output transistors would go into thermal runaway, pop, and the unit would be dead... However, if you weren't cranking the system and if the unit also has a temp sensor on the CD platter and motor, etc.... Then I don't know why in the hell that should overheat? UNLESS you're in that fridged eastern ice/snow storm and had the HEATER blasting full onto the back of the head unit?????? In that case, the cooling fan that magviper suggests would be blowing HOT air from the floor vents.
Bottom line... the stock system sucks!
Good luck... but it shouldn't overheat during normal listening and NORMAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS...
