What DVD player do you have?
Okay, I was trying to find a DVD player to put in my car. Seems like there is the cheap brands(like Boss) than a huge jump to the good stuff(like Alpine). I don't want to spend alot but don't want something that after 3 months is going to be a paper weight. Any recommendations or ones you have used and did like.

If you can afford it and you don't NEED MP3 play, the small Eclipse 3101 is very durable and works great. It uses a very solid Panasonic DVD drive, is slot-loading, and plays vertically. But it's like the Alpine - ex-pensive relative to the other cheapos.
The Japanese made units are ALL much more expensive than the Taiwanese units, and those are more expensive than the Korean units, which are more expensive than the Chinese units.
But a lot of the Chinese units and many of the Korean pieces have lousy vibration performance, and many also have poor high-temp performance (on summer days).

I know I'll probably get a few flames for admitting this, but Im using a Pyle DVD player in my TSX without any problems. I have the one with a built in TV tuner, but Im using an Alpine Tuner instead.
The Pyle works flawlessly since June 05. Plays everything I stick in there. DVD, CD, DVD-R, and even VCD which was very important on my list. I burn MTV videos, shows, and internet downloads to VCD format and the Pyle reads them perfectly. It also reads MPEG and MP3 formats.
I've owned Alpine, Panasonic, and Pioneer DVD players in my previous cars.
1) The Alpine was nice, but it didnt play VCDs or burned DVDs. Sometimes it wouldnt even play burned CDs. Its the most picky unit I have ever owned.
2) The Panasonic was more versatile and costed less, but it wouldnt play any burned VCDs I made just production VCDs I had to buy. It also had alot more features than the Alpine did by remote. It had a chrome face and was very flashy and did not blend well discretly into the car though.
3) The Pioneer played everything and was picky with VCDs as well. I dont think it had the same picture quality as the Alpine though.
4) The Pyle plays everything, and I like it. It is much slower loading up than any of the other units I have had. It takes longer to read the disc, but at least I know it will play it. Yes my friends are suprised to see it in my new car, but they have seen all the other systems in the cars Ive owned and realize there must be some performance reason to use a Pyle in my newest vehicle. Also they see the Alpine collecting dust in my garage right now.
If format versatility is an issue for you, I suggest the Pyle. I cant believe Im saying that, but if you could see a demo in my cars in person between the DVD players you would be shocked by the Pyle as well. On Ebay you can find them for around $200.
None of my DVD would fit perfectly into the pocket of my TSX like cazzy's Myron and Davis unit. I admit that is a nice feature, but all I did was take an air saw to the side of my TSX pocket, did some trimming, and my full DIN DVD player fits in fine and the door opens and latches closed just like stock. So Im happy.

Forgot to mention another thing about the Pyle. It has controls on its front panels as well as a remote. Unlike the Alpine, Panasonic, Pioneer, and Myron and Davis units, the Pyle can be operated directly without a remote control necessary.
That may not be a big deal, but considering how Texas heat kills batteries in remote controls sometimes, its nice to be able to play a movie without having to first pull into a gas station and paying out the rear for a fresh pair of batteries just to get a DVD on.

1) What model ? I'm looking to get the new PLTVD123
2) Why is it you don't use the built-in TV tuner ?
3) Hmmm interesting about the box-mod...Would like to see how you fit a full DIN into that pocket. Can you take some pics ?

2) Alpine tuner is the best on the market, period. I get clear and flawless reception while driving 80mph down the freeway, no static. I have always used Alpine TV tuners in every one of my cars after experimenting with other brands.
3) Take an air saw and trim off about 70% of the right side. DVD player placement inside the box determines the retained function of the door and spring, so cut carefully.

. I also am wondering, how does the tuner work? This was a major reason for getting it. Anyone know where to find a TV antenna short of sticking rabbit ears outside my passenger window????

* Not only TL. full DIN does not fit in any of them.
that one in the pic is 3/4 DIN
I put the Accele Vision 8500 installed in the glove box. The 2 switches above are to switch on/off the FM modulator and also 1 to switch on/off the video to Navi. It never skips and plays upright at a 90 degree angle! Then the eye for the remote is in the little compartment underneath the radio.

AcurasGhost, this looks like good location for a DVD player, because dash opening in TL is too small even for 3/4DIN player. I couldn' t find any info on the player you used. Can you give a link?
