As the Title says, I want the BEST.. top of the line.. Clarion Headunit for my 03 CL-S.
Do you guys got tips on where I can find it at a great cost?..
Also I am thinking about getting a Rockford or Clarion Amp, XM Radio and replacing all my speakers with Clarion speakers..
any tips or experts want to speak up...
I dare you to say Clarion sucks, I'll ban you in heartbeat..... :P just kidding..
All comments welcome..

Alpine IVA-D900
I like this one... but about Alpine...
If it says a Headunit is XM ready does that mean I do not need one of those goofy satelite antennas on my roof?

if it says xm ready, that means you can plug in the xm tuner directly to the deck and control the satellite radio with the deck. the station titles and everything will show up on the deck.
you still need the antenna though, which connects to the tuner.
you don't need to put it on the roof though, the back deck above the trunk works just fine.
that alpine is nice. I'm a huge fan of Alpine.... but I think the best one on the market right now might be this kenwood

and whats wrong with sirius? I had sirius for a while, it was great.
sorry about the bad news I bring you smitty
I'll make it up to you by picking out a nice system for you.

Forget installing multiple components — in the AVIC-N1, Pioneer rolled DVD/CD/MP3 playback, touch-screen system control, and navigation capability into a single in-dash receiver. It'll even monitor different aspects of your vehicle's performance! The AVIC-N1 fits most standard dash openings, and features a hideaway box where most of the inputs and outputs can be found.
The AVIC-N1 comes with two map DVDs, which cover the U.S. They're programmed with detailed street maps and over 12 million points of interest, such as restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and more. The AVIC-N1's 64MB memory lets you remove the map DVD once you've entered a destination, so you can enjoy CDs and MP3s while you get visual and audio turn-by-turn directions. The system monitors your position using its GPS antenna, internal gyroscope, and the connection you make with your vehicle's speed sensor.
When you're driving, you can have the screen display several vehicle dynamics specs. These include acceleration, lateral G-force, speed, angular velocity, and vehicle slope angle. If you're keen on showing off just what your car can do, the AVIC-N1 gives you a great way to do it!
Pioneer also packed plenty of four-way high power into the AVIC-N1, so your music and movie soundtracks will play with serious strength. To adjust the sound to fit your vehicle's acoustics, you can adjust the three-band parametric EQ. And if you really want to drive your speakers and add subwoofers for even more oomph, you can connect amplifiers to the three sets of preamp outputs.
System expansion also plays a vital role in the AVIC-N1's performance. You can add a CD or DVD changer to the built-in controls. The receiver will control an XM Satellite Radio tuner (tuner, antenna, and subscription required) for over 100 channels of coast-to-coast entertainment. And you can connect a separate A/V component, such as a game system or videocassette player, to the set of audio/video inputs.
If you need to keep the monitor retracted while you're driving, you can still control the system — a ten-character secondary display keeps you in full command, even if the monitor's closed.
When you're parked, you can use the 6.5" LCD to watch DVDs. If you connect an optional backseat monitor, you'll be able to take advantage of tri-zone capability. You can listen to the radio up front, send DVD signal to the back, and keep the navigation system running!

i just installed the steering wheel control thing with my new HU yesterday. works great, just MAKE SURE you test it many many times before drilling any holes, and dont forget to check that the line of sight isnt disrupted by the shifter in ANY gear so you're always set to use your controls on the road

it requires its own 12v power ( i tapped my amp turn on lead since it goes into my ignition, just any constant 12v will work :p.. it doesnt take much power) and it needs a ground. Then, like you say, you have to splice just one wire from the adapter into the control wire going into the harness behind the HU. The instructions should tell you exactly what wires to use
The issue I'm talking about is making sure that you have a direct line of sight from the mounted transmitter that comes out of the adapter unit. Typically you drill a small hole into the front of your center console storage to pop the IR transmitter through. I narrowly escaped the mistake of drilling a spot where the transmittter only has a direct line of sight when the car was in park.,. since i was doing this in my garage with the car... well... parked. Just make sure that your HU can still pick up the signal from the transmitter keeping in mind obstructions from the ebrake, cups in the cup holder, and any possible position of the shifter. basically, make sure to thuroughly test your placement before putting a hole in your car :p
What the unit is doing is taking your hardwire signal and transfering it to an IR output for your HU with an IR remote to recieve the signal. Unfortunately, we only have 3 controls in our car, because you can program A LOT more than that :p
