Question Voltage Step up?

Ok Audio Guru's I need your help.

Here's the scenario. I purchased an mpss-4 to install in my 2003 Acura TL w/ navi. My aim is to install this, so the lady will automagically cut in on my front speakers. Of course, you know, this means I have an aftermarket deck.

I have found all the wires I need, and I would have been finished hours ago except I ran into this problem. The navi mute wire (white/black) sends a 12v mute signal to the headunit. So I am using this for my trigger wire. However, whenever I attach another wire to it, the voltage drops to .9. So I thought I'd put in a SPDT relay. I wired the navi mute wire to 86, 85 is ground, 30 is 12v and 87 is out to the mpss-4. But there STILL isn't enough juice to throw the SPDT. Is there some kind of voltage increaser I can use? And how would that be hooked up?

This is the only hurdle left to jump. Anyone with suggestions please chime in. Except for the "I rather her not cut in b/c it interrupts my music comments." I'm doing this b/c I just installed Dom's navandtv2go, and I would much rather her chime in than have to swap my screen back and forth to watch.

Not sure I completely follow, when you attach another wire to it how? Any chance it's not a 12V trigger but a ground trigger on the mute wire?

I'm just splicing into the navi mute wire. When it is spliced and dangling (not connected to anything else) it shows the 12v fine. As soon as I hook it to the yellow trigger wire of the mpss-4, the curren drops to .9 volts. The navi wire is a 12v trigger as I measured the voltage with my voltmeterand it jumps to 12 when the lady comes on.

I'm thinking I could possibly use a low voltage transistor. Any thoughts on that?

soundgate makes a low voltage trigger- I dont have any experience w/ it so I cant vouch for it's capabilities- might wanna check it out.
