Viper 791XV Help!

I was just hoping someone could explain to me why there is a relay for the door locks and how to wire them....i've installed a 791 but it must have been last years b/c EVERYTHING is the same except this.....and there's nothing in the install manual about how to wire it.....everything else is done, I didnt want to just guess either, also, has anyone else found that every wire on the wiring diagrams are wrong, I havent found but 1 that is correct and had to find each one 1 by 1...any help would be great!

I don't know what you are talking about...

If you are working off of the exact same sheet as any authorized Directed dealer would be working off of, then I would think that they would have gotten feedback by now if that sheet were wrong.

Where you got a sheet like that, I don't know.

But I have to tell you, if I have to choose the sheet or your results, I'm taking the sheet for 200, Alex. It might be wrong - but so far you've given me no reason to think that you are right.

ok, here's your reason...I've used the tester....I dont believe I have to tell you how to test a wire to see what it's function is, but if you give me 5 minutes and pull off your fuse panel I'll show you unlock and lock wires are different with about 6 or 7 other wires....and it was the sheet I got from you, and the email subject said "you dont know where you got this".....I'm not putting you or the sheet down b/c i know how a lot of sheets are wrong...and I thank you for your help, it was worth a shot....if you'd like I'll go through and write down all differences and you can submit them

I figured out a little bit.....the lock wires with the relay has to be cut and stripped b/c Acura's do not need the relays for it....so we got that figured out...i wasnt thinking though that you would need to chop some wires I would have thought they would make it with a clip or something so you could just disconnect it....also if you look in your manual the lock relay isnt even mentioned in there

The only problem now is the lock and unlock wont work....with it connected to the brain I but the volt meter to it and it's getting the signal and the correct signal at that, but the locks just wont budge.....do you think it could be something to do with my anti theft or something, b/c the unit is getting the signal it just wont lock or unlock.......I know it's hard to do this over the net but i was just hoping you could help....thanks man

you should have a second harness with just a blue and a green wire that fits in the same slot as the 451m relay pack plugs into. The blue throws out a neg unlock signal and green throws a neg lock signal. I'd make sure the fuse for your factory doorlocks isn't blown and you are tapped into the correct wires- I couldn't make out what vehicle you are working on from the thread other than it is some 2003 Im assuming a honda/acura- if so it will be neg trigger doorlocks. If you are hooking up the remote start you should be going into the drivers door pannel to tag the factory disarm-no unlock wire you should be able to find the right wires off the drivers switches while you have the door off. With out more info that's all I got for ya

OK, here's the deal:

If you have a sheet that is for professional installers - I don't know IF you have such a sheet, because how would I know - BUT if you have such a sheet, it's for professional installers - and I've checked and there has never been any copmplaint about the sheet.

And while you don't have to tell me how to test a wire, you DO have to prove to me that YOU know how to test a wire. I don't think you know. I think you are "seeing" 12V(+) on the motor wires and not getting those wires to work on the door locks, not understanding how door lock circuits work, and not understanding how to use your tester to solve your problem.

And if I DID send you a sheet in email saying "I don't know where you got this", then why would you tell everyone in a public forum?

If you spent a little more time doubting yourself instead of the sheet, you might learn something.

Yes, I am curious as well.

I guess what we are trying to say (at least what *I'm* trying to say) is taht we dhave a low level of confidence in your installation diagnosis abilities - and when an installer argues that the data is wrong instead of asking why it *seems* wrong, he's often the weak link in the chain.

and let me just correct you, I DO FEEL LIKE WE DID do something wrong b/c the doors wont unlock and lock, what I DID SAY WAS WRONG was the info on the cheat sheet, that's not something you can argue, being in the field you are i would have thought you would have done 1 remote start on an acura and had to use that sheet

I was afraid you were going to say that, please use a multi meter. Those "smart probes" are damaging in car electronics.

this is the reason my shop won't honor alarm warranties when installed by customers. Even if the swear they "know" what they're doing. . .

What do the words "I don't know where you got this" mean to you? Huh?

And I thought that Best Buy was installing this thing for you?

If you would read what I'm saying, instead of knee-jerking on it, you would learn effective ways to get help. So far, I'd say your ways are ineffective. And if I were on you like you whine that I am, I would be talking a little differently. I'm just trying to get your attention, and teach you a lesson that you need to learn - and you cry like I'd kicked you in the nuts.

When I would take a call from an installer telling me my wire colors were all wrong, I'd ask what colors he was finding, and what his DOM was on the car, and what the wires he was finding tested like, and what kind of test euqipment he was using. Most of the time, he had given me the wrong year, or was testing the wrong way.

For example - the lock wires you are looking for on that car are also OEM alarm arm/disarm wires. The info I read says "test using the passenger's key switch". Did you test using the key? Or did you test using the interior rocker switch? Testing the wrong way will help you find another set of wires that lock and unlock with (-) pulses. They don't disarm the OEM alarm, though... as you may soon find out. UInlocking your door with a remote and having the OEM alarm go off immediately is kind of a PITA.

Now that's some good info, yes the installer from best buy was doing it and i was pretty much just looking over his shoulder, but yes actually the key was on so i could use the cig. lighter for the tester, so maybe that had an effect???? I dont know, i'm taking it by there on Sat. to let the guy who does their remote start systems finish it up, there's about 3 wires to go

for some odd reason Best Buy didnt have the 2003 just the 2002 so I really didnt want to compare that although the were a lot alike.....I did however get another cheat sheet from a local install business and they were pretty much the same....sometimes they'd have the pin wrong or something but for the most part they were similar i wont say exact though
