Viper 791XV
Viper 791XV
I have just bought but not yet installed a Viper 791XV alarm. I have also purchased the motion sensor and the digital tilt sensor for my car...I was wondering if any one else has these features on their alarms and what they think about the motion sensor and the tilt sensor. Thanks again!
I've got that. The f&*king motion sensor is the most sensitive thing in the world. Shadows, leaves, people walking by... everything sets the damn thing off. I usually disable my alarm now, or else my keychain pager is going off every three minutes.
Are you referring to the digital motion sensor or to the proximity "radar" detector? (I guess the way to tell is, is it triggering by motion to the car or motion of people walking up to it?)
The digital motion sensor is about impossible to get to go off... it's for when someone jacks up your car to take the wheels or to tow it. If you get lotta falses from that it's bad or wired wrong.
But it sounds like you have the microwave proximity "radar" sensor, not a vehicle-motion sensor. Those are notoriously touchy, and they pick up bigger objects farther away than they do smaller objects.
If you have "radar" (it's not really "radar", because radar includes ranging, and these don't range at all), you have to be very clear about why you have it.
If you want a warning set of chirps outside the car, the alarm should be able to be set up so that the radar never gives full trigger.
If all you want is full trigger, you should be able to adjust it down so that someone has to get inside before you get full trigger. Be aware that sensitivity usually increases on these senosrs in cold weather due to component value shifts in low temperatures.
Personally, I don't like these radar sensors except for convertibles for this exact reason.
Bottom line, it's a wiring thing, or an adjustment thing, or both, topped off with poor explanation of what your sensor is actually capable of doing well.

right. I have the 'radar' detector thing and the motion sensor. I have it set to chirp a few times before actually going off, as a warning. problem is that EVERYTHING makes it chirp.
maybe it just needs to be adjusted somehow.
it's great as long as you aren't in a busy area though. It goes off if anyone tries looking in the windows, or if they reach in an open window. plus the range on the thing is incredible. It works for about 1/4 mile... my main use for this is making it chirp to find my car in parking garages.

So you have two different sensors?
The motion sensor is an option, the stock sensor that comes with almost all alarms is an Impact or shock sensor... different than motion. Check this...https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/alarm-sensors-do-you-need-285782/
Your alarm should be configurable, either through install wiring, programming, or both, to be able to do "Warn-Away Only" or "Warn-Away with Trigger" (These are the terms from the install manuals... at least the old install manuals back when I wrote them all; )
If you don't want full alarm, you can get it changed to Warn-Away ONLY... but it sounds like your biggest problem is that that damn thing is set too high. Most shops give you lifetime free adjustments ... get it checked.
