universal GPS antenna for OEM navi?

hey guys,

I posted this over at the CL forums but no one really seems to know. I'm gathering all the parts together for the navigation swap, and instead of buying a 120 dollar OEM antenna could i just get an antenna like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Universal-MCX-Ja...1|293:1|294:50

or something similar and wire it in? if so, how? Appreciate the help guys

-Evan

Sorry but I dont think a lot of people will know the answer since a lot haven't done this swap. It is just because Garmins and Tom Toms are so much cheaper and work much better that people usually buy those before doing a swap.

The issue you're going to have is connecting it to the navi unit. Not sure what type of wire the antenna uses but my guess is it's shielded which is a bitch to splice.
Not to mention you'd still need to find the plug that is required to connect it to the navi unit in the trunk.

Check ebay for one or local junkyards.

I bought one off ebay when I accidentally yanked out the antenna wire out of the nav player in the trunk. It's a magnet mount box w/ a 16 foot lead. The plug itself is gray, it's like a square w/ two corners rounded off. In the middle of that, there's a square female plug. I used that for several months til I sourced an OE one on the cheap. I only paid around $30 for it. I'll try to find one on ebay or something and link you....let me know if the connector description is good enough for you.

yeah, OEM navi in the 2nd gen is ok but i think a nice double din with navi would be the way to go if i had to do it. I am not really happy with my slow oem navi...the newer TL's really have nice interface i think, but pioneer double dins have a nice navi setup
