Tweeter locations

Just picked up a new component set today, and was thinking about tweeter location.
Has anybody mounted their tweets anywhere other than the stock (dash) location or down by the woofer?
I was thinking either flush monted in the door skin by your knee, or in the triangle trim piece like a 2nd. gen.

I've heard everything from "no more than 1" away, and no less than 7" away from the mid driver, to as close to the mid axis as possible.

I know there are countless paradigms on where you can/can't or should/shouldn't place tweets, but I just wanted to hear your guys input on this.

i was going to leave them in the stock location..

a friend of mine went through 3 sets of kick panels before he got the sound stage to represent anythign other than a puddle of applesauce so try ti out before you make anything.

The thing about placement that is important is the distance of each component to your ear, so that there isn't any time difference between the tweet and the mid. It doesn't have to be exact, but the closer the better.

In our first gens, I actually like the stock locations. The forward mounted tweets bring up the image of the low mounted mids.

I also like the idea of using the sail panel (the triangle behind the mirrors). Pointed at the opposite person in the car, it could also help with natural balance. You will of course hear the one closer to you, but it won't be as loud pointed the other way. What you might do is wire it up and stick the tweet on the sails with some duct tape and have a listen.
