TV in Steering Wheel?

I saw a DYI (not on this website) for putting a TV in your steering wheel...but that was a few years ago....i know it's unsafe b/c you take out the airbags....but i was wondering if anyone knows of anyone who's had success doing this and how they did it

Exclamation

I guess either the airbag unit would have to be gutted or a custom cover molded off the original would have to be made and then the TV installed in the airbag cover, running the wiring inside the steering column. This would be great for the show circuit (remember you'd have to trailer the car everywhere though).

But of course, installing a TV in your steering wheel would render your car "illegal for use on public highways". If you did it anyway and a cop noticed it you'd get a major fine. If you never got caught by the law, Pure Adrenaline nicely described the consequences if you got into an accident in your closed thread; you'd then be SOL when it comes to your medical bills, etc. Wasn't West Coast Customs busted for doing this on street driven cars recently? But enough of my soapbox.

Keep these things in mind if you do this, post pics if you do.

i'm guessing it would have to be a dyi project as the NHTSA is cracking down hard on shops doing this. If i remember correctly one shop was fined closed to 20k for doing removing airbags for tv's. As far as doing it, i know people around here that i have worked with that can do it and have offered to teach me, but to be honest i don't want to know how because of the legal implications that come with it.

i don't mind tv's in the steering wheel...but moreso for vehicles that were never airbag equipped to begin with (my personal fav being old school chevy's). having the tv in the wheel isn't any worse than having a dvd running on the nav screen, it's still in view of the driver either way.

oh and that tl doesn't look bad at all.

This is the stupidest thing i ever saw. First you take away the airbag and replace it with a TV screen for you to get distracted. Cops are on the looks for DVD in dash console. And a TV screen in your steering wheel not only put the driver in danger but other commuter as well.

I would hate to hit that TV screen if I ever got in an accident. I think it's a terrible idea.

this is stupid. ironic to say tat to remove ur airbag just so u can fit a tv in the steering wheel is...well ironic. i'd hate to be watching tv or something while driving and then get in an accident in the case the airbag doesnt deploy,...
