Lightbulb Turntable

I'm shopping for a turntable. Anyone have experience with a particularly good model? It will be for really old vinyl records.

No, it's not for the car.

That depends on your budget. I will assume that you are not looking for a 10,000+ high end system, so my first recommendation is to look into the Music Hall series of turntables.
They range in price from about 300 to 1500 depending on model and they come equipped from the factory with fairly good cartridges. (However, I think the cartridges are of the moving coil type, so make sure your preamp is equipped to handle them. Otherwise you may need a step-up transformer. Your dealer should help with this.)
Some other good relatively inexpensive turntables are: Rega P3 and the lower end Project turntables.
A really good place to look for turntables and related items on the internet is at Jerry Raskins Needle Doctor. (I don't know the actual address, do a search on Needle Doctor.)
Good Luck, Ron

I like Music Hall.

My friend is an audiophile in North County - I'll ask him if there's any shop he likes that has them.

Well, I don't know to what extent you will be using the turntables. I have a pair of Technics, they speak for themselves among the music industry.

If not, go with a Music Hall series turntable, they are nice.

It really does matter what you want to listen to and how nice of a system you are going to listen to them on...

I mean if you have a nice high end stereo, you would be cheating yourself by buying a $100 turntable. Guys that are into turntables wouldnt blink at spending $150+ on just a needle/cart combo..

Is this just for listening or do you wanna be a dj? you gonna scratch...

I have a Gemini XL-2000 which is basically their knockoff of the famed Technics 1200 turntable. I have two carts, one sure for scratching and a high end Ortofon german one for listening.
