TSX tweeters.

Who has successfully installed after-market tweeters in the factory location? What brands fit with the least modification? Does any brand fit? I have a set of infinity reference tweeters that I want to install.

I have infinity tweeters in the stock locations. They fit with one of the infinity supplied platic mounting buckets. It was a very tight fit on one of them, so I dremelled the hole out a little. You may or may not have to shave them a bit to get them in, but its no big deal, and its worth it.

Reach, what bit did you use on your dremel?

300 sand wheel. Not a cutoff bit, just something to grind the plastic down.

I've got Polk Db6500's in mine.

The holes were slightly too small for the tweeters so I fixed it in a very ghetto like manner:

with a serrated knife.

yes, i know

it worked though... just took off a little at a time and tried to fit them in. They now rest perfectly in the holes though, they are not 'attached' in any way.

Looks good, sounds good. Good enough for me, at least.

Under the windshield, in the corners.

Has anyone given any thought to these tweeters?

They have an inline crossover, so I'd imagine they'd be less prone to blowing.

I have used the Kicker tweeters that came in the Kicker SS Component system. They worked with little to no real custom mods. I mean I made my own bracket to house them out of ABS but that only took 10 minutes for each tweet.

This one seems to have pretty good specs, decent price, and a flush-mount adapter that I think will fit the stock TSX location:

Im curious to hear everyone's results of their changes. Are they just louder? Do they sound cleaner and more detailed or are they just louder? Did they raise the sound stage and imaging above the dash? The OEM solution has the staging really low and I cant stand it.

I believe that's the tweeter used by Avincar. It gets a lot of mentions over at diymobileaudio and I keep planning to order a pair and try them... It might need a small capacitor to raise the x-over point a little bit.

This one also looks interesting: http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/ind....4473&pid=2135

If so, then try a 4.7uF capacitor.

I have not replaced mine yet, but I have a friend who purchased a JL XR set for his truck. I am planning to rplace my front speakers so for giggles, I took the tweeters out to my car. With the addl. trim ring they come with, they fit ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. At first they looked to be a hair to big, but pushed them a tiny bit and they wedged into the hole perfectly. Since there is a little lip there, the trim ring basically was completely flush with the dash. Sorry I didn't take a pic.

I have JL XR tweeters in the factory housing, perfect fit. Just used a little shoe goo on the backside of the tweeter to keep it from vibrating out. Sounds great!

Use a tiny flat headed screwdriver (jewelery type) and pry very carefully.

Hint: wrap it in electrical tape, less of a chance you'll scar the trim.
