Trying to decide what direction to go with audio setup

Hi everyone.

I'm relatively new here (at posting anyways, been reading and lurking for years) and I am just looking for some ideas and comments on what to do in terms of upgrading the stock 3g TL sub.

I'm interested in sound quality as opposed to SPL. I do enjoy loud music and loud bass at times but quality is a bigger issue to me. (I do enjoy trance DJ stuff with very heavy bass sometimes, but I also listen to metal and indie music.)

I'm mostly interested in what you guys think about the practicality of using something similar to a 10" Fi Q. I think ported is probably the best choice but if I remember correctly the necessary box size for a subwoofer like the Q is pretty big, would I be able to fit it in the 3g TL's trunk?

Next, the amplifier I'd be pairing to it. I've heard good things about sundown amplifiers but I'm no expert so any ideas on this front are more than appreciated. I think 800-1000 watts is good for a Fi Q.

Now does this seem too extreme a setup if staying with stock door speakers for now? I feel the sub of the 05 TL is inadequate, even compared to my old 99 TL's stock sub so I'd like to change the sub first to something that is high quality and could work as a jumping off point for later changing the other component speakers.

I'm worried though that this amount of power and bass is too extreme for keeping most of the rest stock. I'm pretty new to this so any opinions are appreciated.

Also I'm wondering if I'd have to mess with the alternator or get another battery or anything. I wouldn't want to do anything that could ruin my electrical and would rather not need to go aftermarket on alternator and everything.

Sorry for the long post. Any tips or advice in a high quality but not too extreme installation are appreciated. The only reason I don't want to rip apart everything is I'm on a budget. Thanks.

That set up would be killer. You should do the big 3 upgrade on your wiring. Get a good upfront battery, and you should be ok. Remember to set your gains properly with a dmm. Sundown amps ftw. This is prolly one of the better audio threads started by a newb. You get a A+ for doing your research and such. Good job man.

Sundown SAZ-1000D on a 10" Fi Q would be a nice setup. Would it overpower the door speakers? If you wanted. Would you need electrical upgrades, probably not. I'd still run 1/0 and the Big 3, but that's just me...

I copy pasted this thread to the 3g forums as well and after saying that I'd like to keep the budget around $1000 or less I was recommended using two of these in a dual ported box:

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/s...7B47%7DS4.html

and an amp similar to this:

http://www.woofersetc.com/p6840/DSC2...-Amplifier.htm

The guy who told me to look into these made a good point saying that it'd be less strenuous on my electrical for similar sound.

Any comments?

I'm still looking for any and all suggestions for me to research (I have a lot of free time at work).

I should probably have limited this to one thread but I had a feeling the 3g TL guys wouldn't all read the audio off topic forums and vice versa. Oh well!

this is the other thread:

The Sundown will be a much better amplifier than the MBQ. I've run (and currently own) both. The MBQ runs hot, whereas the Sundown does not at all. I would much rather use a different amp to power my SA-8, but I don't feel like spending the money on anything more for that car.

Also, a box for 2 10's will take up more space than the 1 Q 10, so keep that in mind. As for the SQ difference between the subs, that I can't tell you, because I haven't used both in similar installs.

Lol i wonder who made that suggestion lol possibly the guy who always does. I swear he must have stock with them.
I'd run the sundown. I've had 4 sundown amps and all have been great. I would never go back.

don't forget that the mb quart is cheaper.

Shouldn't get hot either since it's running @ 4 ohms as opposed to 1 ohm

Good to know about the amps. I'd like to invest in a high quality amp to begin with to have to upgrade less often or never.

And yea, I'm going to do some measurements and get a better idea of just how much space will be taken out of my trunk when I get some free time.

The price for those SSA speakers seems really good though and I haven't found anything but good reviews yet. Don't know if the Q is that much higher quality.
