Time to Renew XM - Question
Time to Renew XM - Question
My first year of XM, which I paid approx $77 for thru the Winback promotion, is about to expire. Last year, I charged the subscription to a credit card that I ended up canceling a few months ago (long story....).
So, I thought that XM would call me when they found that the CC was no longer valid, and I'd then negotiate for the best deal for renewal. Nope. Instead, I got a letter from XM listing a number of options (ie - monthly, quarterly etc) to pay by check and offering one free month if I charge it to a credit card. Unfortunately, the rates are no bargain (ie -- $38.85 for 3 months).
Although I'd like to get the $77 rate again, that's probably not realistic. However, I don't want to pay almost $120/yr for XM either.
I'm mulling over letting them shut off the service after my one year expires (around April 15), and waiting for them to give me a better offer.
What do you guys think? Should I wait for them to contact me with a better rate, or should I take the initiative and call them to try to get a better rate?
What have you guys done when your one year $77 Winback deal expired?
Thanks!

I just got a thing from them about renewing (actually that they were auto-renewing me unless I canceled) , and the cheapest rate was $10/month, for the longer contracts.
So, I called them and asked to cancel my service.
They counter offered me a year for $80.00 or something close to that.
I took the deal.

I just called XM and told them I received a letter saying that I could have the $77 promotion. The lady on the phone didn't even hesitate and signed me up for it. So I have XM for another full year at $77 for the year.
