Thinking of Morel... eldude?

warning... long post

So it's been awhile. Elduderino helped me with my install a few years back on a 2005 TSX (via this forum, not actually in person since, you know I'm all the way across the country). The system consisted of CDT HD-62 2-way components up front and a DLS Reference sub (MW10D – 10” sub) in rear. A JL slash series 300/4 amp powered the up front components and a left over JL slash series 450/4 (bridged) to power the sub.

Well the JL 300/4 amp crapped out on me a few weeks ago and getting it replaced has been a production. Anyway, short story, I decided to try CDT’s SQA-4100 amp to power the components up front and a FOCAL Solid 1 to power the sub.

It seems I’ve added quite a bit of head room with both amps, 470 rms watts to a sub rated to handle 300w nominal (I think) and running the CDT amp bridged so something like 300 rms watts to the components up front (rated to handle 180w nominal w/ high pass at 100Hz). The theory being I should have plenty of clean power running to the drivers without taxing the amps at all and pushing the drivers in full (assuming gains have been set optimally and I'm not going to melt voice coils or anything).

So in doing this amp replacement I started thinking about maybe even upgrading the up front components. I started looking at the CDT “Signature Series”, a local audio shop that has helped with my latest install recommended the FOCAL 165 KRX2 set or just replacing the woofers in the door with 165KRC (coaxials) and keep my CDT tweeters in the dash. I did get a chance to listen to the Focal’s for about a half-hour. The sounded brilliant, but it was on the sound board so not sure if the sound would transfer to the car intact.

So in researching possible upgrades to the up front components, I ran across maybe checking out Morel and DLS. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions and experience with those in comparison to the CDT-HD62s and/or the Focal K2 Power series components?

if your looking to spend that much money, you should have a look at Rainbow components.

it all comes down to which you listen to and like the best

Well, I suppose nothing is really wrong with my current CDTs. I'd imagine with the new amps hooked up I might be more than satisfied with the increased power put to them. Though I might be hesitant crossing them over at a lower frequency with all the new power.

I ran across Hybrid Audio Technologies. Anyone have any experience with them and their Legatia lines?

As for knowing specific model numbers for Morel or DLS I figure something comparable to Focal's K2 Power series. Still researching what models to check out and where I could actually listen to them.
