Is there a pass-through from the trunk to the passenger compartment? Some IS300 folks have encountered the same dilemma, and their solution was to fabricate a sub mount that sealed the pass-through, and provided a place to mount a free-air sub.

j_o_e_y: Try searching on IS300.net. The guy that did this (TEG) posted pictures, and they should be in the interior mods forum. I think there were detailed discussions on how to do it too, although I'm really not sure how much they would apply to the CL-S.

The only problem with mounting it in the pass through is that the arm rest must be kept down. I have a 400 watt infinity sub in my trunka and it is amazingly rattle free, my last car a 92 diamante was nearly shaken apart by it but my 97 CL is having no problem, but i would suggest putting some foam on the back of your license plate, that is a nice rattle place.

Rattles are easily fixed...OR, you could go with a free air sub through the armrest.

I keep hearing about people wanting to mount a free-air sub. What is a free-air sub??? What are the advantages to having one as opposed to subs in a sealed or ported enclosure???

Hey bro, don't waste your time with a free air sub. In my opinion, they sound like shit. Porting a sealed box thru your armrest is probably gonna be your best bet in eliminating rattling. I'm plannin on doing (2) square 12's this way and there should be very little rattling if I can get it to work right.

Morel makes some hella expensive 8" subs that you could mount in the rear deck, replacing the 6x9s that are there.

Not sure how much umph you need.

JL Audio makes a 6 inch sub (6W0). I was toying with the idea of replacing the rear console with a small sub box. Using 1 or 2 of these. Maybe an isobaric box (don't think the 6W0 would work to well). 2 of these would probably fit in the ski pass-through. Make a cover to replace the arm rest.

An 8 might fit in a custom box between the front and rear console.

But, all this custom stuff would be hard to compete with a 12 in the trunk...

You could also try a Cascade Trunk kit. IT's basically like Dynamat, but much stronger, and it doesn't peel off without help. Check out http://www.cascadeaudio.com/prod/trunkkit.html

Don't get free air subs unless you want your bass to sound like shit. They're the absolute worst. The principle behind them is they use your trunk as the enclosure/box. They sound worse than 15's in a crappily made ported box.

Idea?

I want to put subs in the cabin, but it is just too much work. Blaupunkt just came out with these super-thin subs and they might be a good idea. But i'm not sure.
I am gonna be rockin with 2 12" Polk Momo's. They are 1000 Peak. They're gonna be powered by a JBL BP1200.1. Inside the cabin i'm gonna have infinity perfect components and 4-way Pioneers. The speakers are gonna be powered by a JBL P80.4. I would have got Rf's, but they are way to expensive for me, especiallyy if i get other mods. I haven't decided on a head unit yet. I haven't had time to install everything. I'm going to be making a custom floor in the trunk to enclose everything including 2 RF Digital Caps. it shoudl take about 2 weeks to finish the enclosure. I'm gonna take pictures inthe process and I'll post them when I'm done. Suggestions for a head unit?

Crazy:
Doing any kind of sub through the armrest will sound awful...very bad dispersion pattern...generally not a good idea. Especially since the armrest will act as a badly tuned port. I suggest, since you have a TL, you either get an 8" free air sub...and install it up there (cheapest option)....get an 8" or 10" sub and build a box into the bottom of the rear deck for it...or do what I'm doing and make a bandpass box you port through the rear deck (most expensive but most powerful).

like heaven :P

I used to compete, and most judges thought it was a privilege to sit in my car.

With my EQ I had extreme flexability to switch between daily and competition SQ settings.

Imaging was amazing with constant bass up front.
