Tang Band 6x9 sub questions.

Tang Band 6x9 sub questions.
Where can I get a pair of these in the US? Also, would adding a foam baffle help the bass any as well as protect the paper drivers? Something like this (maybe cut a small port hole in them):

I'm going to put a pair of the TB's in my rear deck along with Polk DB6750's up front and DB675's in the rear doors.
Thanks for any input.

Thanks tuan,
I just emailed them. Thanks for letting me know about these subs in an earlier thread as well. I'm debating getting small ported enclosures for them. That's why I thought the baffles may help. I only have so much trunk space that I can give up.

hey you know i never thought of that , perhaps the foam baffel may help reduce some unwanted cone travel and may help to reduce some distortion. let me know if they help

BassMechanic,
I'm no expert here but I'd at least like to protect those paper cones from stuff (golf clubs, briefcases etc.) that I'll be tossing in the trunk. Those baffles come in a 5" deep version so I though they may also have some benefit to the bass with small holes in them. I was reading over on the caraudio forums about free air subs and someone mentioned that small ported enclosures around the TB subs would make them sound very good. Maybe I need to use something more solid then foam for the small enclosures that I'd hang/attach underneath the 6x9's. Maybe something like these attached somehow:

I want more SQ mostly. If I can squeeze more bass (or at least better quality) out of this that would be great too. I definitely don't need a booming, loud setup. The 6 3/4" Polks should improve things themselves a bunch SQwise and basswise. I read somewhere that a guy dropped the TB's in his G35 and they tightened things up a bunch. For about $80, it's a no brainer to swap the stock 6x9's out for those.

to be honest tho, if you want pure SQ than you shouldnt upgrade the 6.5s on the rear door. i think its a waste of money when you have a strong frontstage. ill use that money on something else.

It's only costing me $50 for the 675's. Crutchfield has 50% off of your second pair of Polks. What the hell, it's only $50 to give my passengers a little better SQ and to add to the bass overall.

AsahiToro, the stock 6x9's are actually poly cones not paper. and i wouldnt cut any holes in the baffel. my thoughts are that with that foam cover it may slightly decrease the cone movement durning the lower bass tones that often cause the stock subs to flop wildly out of control causing distortion. i think that perhaps by having that foam cover sealed around the speaker will help to make them distort less without reducing the overall output. it might be worth a shot.
i dont know what tuan had replaced in his car but i have said this before. i think replacing the stock 6x9's will reduce the bass output more than help it. i have tried it myself and it was obvious that there was almost no bass even though they were wired correctly and moving even farther than the stock speakers were. the parameters of the stock speakers seem to be matched to the accustics of the car and replacing them upsets the equalization that has been adjusted for thoes speakers. if you want to improve the bass im afraid you will have to buy a sub and amp. i had toyed with the idea of replacing the stock speakers with somthing like a 6.5 inch round and adding an enclosure and port. my hope is that running off stock power it will greatly improve the bass. but i have not had the time to research it and build anything. if i ever get that done ill be building them for anyone that wants to improve the stock setup.

bass,
ive bought all my parts and havent installed. after much reading i just think its a big hassle to get proper imaging and sq. having a setup w/ good bass isnt a problem, but obtaining absolute SQ is very difficult to obtain. the tsx stock locations arent optimized for SQ. the tweeter locations are not very good. having the tweeter there next to the window ruins any sound coming out from the tweeters, thats the reason why i advise some others on here NOT to buy really expensive components because the install and tuning is just as important if not more than the components. right now ill prolly have to place my new tweeters on the doors' top panels or in the sails.

well, you can improve it if you put in the time and effort in the placement, install, and tuning, which im willing to do. i got all my gear, its a DIY component i put together, and im running it with an active crossover so tuning will be relatively easy. im only replying to this thread to help out AsahiToro, and to inform him that spending all that money w/o the proper setup might make his system sound even worse. some ppl have the misconception that more bass, loudness, and even crisper sound is SQ, but SQ is different. a sq system should reproduce music like if you were in a recording studio listening to it live.
