Swap 2005+ RADIO W/XM into a 2004?

Newbie here, want to swap the factory non-navi radio that has xm capabilities into my 2004. I want to put sirius in it and I found this kit
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-...5fInstallation

I need the radio that has the xm button to work it. Is it a direct fit?

Probably cheaper to install an iPod adapter that has RCA inputs and then buy a Sirius tuner. Finding a factory radio will drive the costs up considerably. I added XM to my '04 using an USASpec iPod adapater and a Pioneer GEX FM903XM tuner unit. Now I just cycle to Aux 1 for iPod, and Aux 2 for XM Radio and I have a small display/controller that sits in my 'Not an Ashtray' holder.

iPod Adapter (approx $150)
XM Receiver/controller ($20 on Ebay)
XM antenna and other parts (approx $60)
Add-a-fuse - 2 needed (approx $8)

As an added benny, the XM receiver has worked from day 1 without needing to actually activate and pay for! Keep waiting for the existing subscription to run out but maybe I have one that will be good forever Been running for 6 months so far perfectly.

Sounds like a nice setup, but price is not a problem, I want the oem radio that can be controlled from the steering wheel and not have to mess with another controller.

The 05 TL radio is the same as the 04 TL radio. Should be a direct swap; however you will need the XM antenna. I'm not sure if there is another "black box" in the car that you need to make it work.

I have an 04 TL with XM.

Another option is a portable XM radio that xmits on an unused FM radio station. I had one in my last vehicle and loved it... plus you can pull it out and carry it with you if you're in different vehicle.

So the TL radio from an 05 will fit the 04, but what about the tsx? Anyone done this yet?

Sorry, won't work. You'd need a new dash harness with additional pigtails, which run to the rear of the car and the XM control unit. Its an extensive tear-down project that makes aftermarket a much more attractive option.

Side note: Aren't the XM and Sirius lineups basically the same now?

After more research, I was able to find out that it will work, and it does. I swapped the radio for a 2005 w/xm and hooked the box directly into the back of the head unit. Now I have factory look sirius radio.

If you have an XM ready radio with or without the actual XM Module, you can get 2 parts to make it Sirius and display like the XM. They're both made by Directed Electronics. They are HON-SC1 and the SCC1. This will probably only benefit those that have the XM ready radio, but without the installed XM Module.
