Subwoofer Recommendation?
Subwoofer Recommendation?
Hey guys,
I'm on the market for a new sub (currently building a custom enclosure) and I'm looking for something mid-range to lower high-range. I've been looking at the Infinity Kappa Perfect (12 inch) and the Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 3 so far. Does anyone have any experience with either of these subs? Any other alternatives out there? Are there any review sites you guys know of? I've been having a hell of a time finding expert reviews about car subwoofers.
Thanks for the help!
Regards,
Ishakir

How much do u want to spend. From the two choices I would say Kappa. But I say check the JL W3v3 or the Alpine R

I have a 10" Type R older style and it's a nice SQ sub but I want to buy a Diamond Audio D6 series. Read some reviews and people compare it to JL W6V2 in terms of SQ and SPL both. And it's only about $150 at http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5354.html
it needs at least 600wrms though

I honestly would check out what dnd has to offer. Either the Diamond Audio sub or the 13w3v3 would be a really good choice. Since you want to keep it at $200 and he is selling it for $215 that isn't that bad of a difference. You really can't go wrong with a JL. I have a 12W6v2 and it is exactly what I wanted

After your recommendations, I am pretty sure I want to go with JL Audio. I'm thinking about rolling with a 12w3v2 or what dnd has to offer.
I'm going to continue looking, thanks guys!!

thats very true........or at least look at how much air the speaker you want needs before you go out and buy it........

well just wait to make the actual box till you decide on what speaker you want........you have to have a measured amount of air whether its a ported or a sealed enclosure.........each speaker has a max and min amount of air for the each type of box........
don't go with the big names, there are many great subs that aren't known by new consumers.
head over to the caraudio.com forum, i learned a lot there...
if you can wait ascendantaudio[.com] is coming out with new drivers. cheap price, crazy quality!

big names have their rep.........so the only bad thing about going with them is their price........but at least you know its good quality........and yes there are many speaker and amps brands from companies you've never heard of that are extremely good.........

I tested out all the Ascendant Audio stuff and noting really special. Other than JL if u want a small company sub go with RE. The RE SE is on par with the W6v2 from JL.
I tested the elemental 13kv against W3 and the winner was the W3.
Your best option is probably the JL audio 12w6. One of the best "bang for your buck" subs out there is the Alpine R-Type. You can get two 12's for under $300 on eBay. I've had both...It really depends on what kind of music you listen to....the alpine was louder SPL wise, but the JL has better SQ and can hit deeper tones.
