Subwoofer facing front or rear?

I just added a 12" JL and the stereo shop put the box with the subwoofer facing the rear of the car. I thought it would sound better with the sub facing the front. Any advice?

From what ive experienced is that it hits harder with the box facing the trunk and as about 8-12" away from the trunk lid. The reason for this is that the bass reflects off the trunk and then goes into the car. Also this way is the most space consuming and and aslo doenst look as good.
