Subwoofer Advice

Hey guys, i needed some advice. I currently hacve 2 12 inch fosgate p3 with a mono 500 power fosgate amp. I was recently offered a re audio subwoofer for a 100 bucks. My friend totaled his car so he said i can take it off his hands for a bill. Its a 12 inch re audio sx sub in a box. I love to take it becuase i will have more room in my trunk. He used to have it hooked to a 2k watt us amp. Should i take it? My system slams hard now. Ive heard the re and liked it. Nice and clean. What should i do? Keep current set up? Use current amp with new sub? New sub with new us amp??

I would take RE over Rockford Fosgate anyday. They're built well and they slam hard. Idk how one would compete with 2 P3s but I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Plus you'll probably gain a lot of trunk space.

Take the SX and the bigger amp. The SX's are rated at 1kw IIRC, but they'll take more in the right enclosure.

I don't think you need 2000 watts, 1000-1200-1500 should be more than enough, but I say take the re amp

IIRC, US amps are numbered by the max watts they put out, not rms. So it would be ~1kw rms. Assuming you're at 1ohm, then you should be pretty solid. Just keep in mind that the US amp is going to draw more current, so make sure you have the electrical to support it, or you could be back to the Rockford in no time...

Personally I've tried many brands of round subs and then my friends and I switched to Kicker squares. One square 12 and people will think you have 2 15s in there. And you will have a trunk again, which I never cared about until I was older. 750 to 1500 watts for the L7 12" with the surface area of a 15", tuned or ported to your taste. Or the SoloX at 2500 rms in 12". I had 1 L712" in a 99 Accord and it was way too much. I stepped down to 2 round 12" and quickly left those at a pawn shop, re-installed the Kicker. Just my worthless opinion.

Well it would be a different situation if i was getting a new set up. Ive spent too much on this car and need to save for my bmw Only reason i brought up the re was my friends giving it to me for a hell of a deal. He paid about 350-400 for the sub and box and is giving it to me for a 100 since his car was wrecked. Im leaning on keeping my old ones because i feel its useless to get a new sub. Then again i think i should so i will have more room lol. I already got 2 12 L5's 2 12 audiobhans sitting in my garage. I dont wanna have another set in there. So confused!

The SX is a much better sub than the P3. It'll get lower, louder, sound better, and handle more power than the P3. They're not even in the same class of subs.

Jonathan321, you've obviously never heard a good "offbrand" setup. Kicker's alright if you want something that's stupid loud but doesn't sound that good. They're kind of like the Alpine Type-R's. I was running an RD Alpha V2 12 on 1200w and I'd guess it was louder than your L7. If it wasn't, my rebuild will be...
