Subs facing....?????
am i missing something here? How can you fit a 10" with a sealed box in the stock sub location which is only 2" depth? Either way, 10 or 12", they'll be in the trunk. The stock sub mounting location is only 8" with 2.25" depth.
You know my vote. Do you really think you can enlarge the hole that much and still seal around the faceplate to the bottom of the deck without any holes for leaks? Also, if your sub/box is a bit heavy, I would add a couple of stiffeners to the rear deck, otherwise it'll flex and muddy up the bass. My 8" was tight to seal around the middle seat belt tensioner and still access to the 3rd brake light lamps using a 1" thick collar. Good luck.
Have you considered a ported system with the port running a bit outside the box up thru the stock sub hole and sealing the rear deck so that the port is sealed directly into the cabin? Just a thought.

random...
I wont be mounting the sub on the back deck, but I will be shaving the hole to accomadate the "neck" of the enclosure, which will be made of fiberglass. I wont have to worry about the seat belt tensioner because the box will be formed around it. Besides, a 10 doesnt require that much volume, so I can just build the bulk of the box to the left.
Speaking of which, I also had a theory to port the box through the rear deck between the sub and the right pillar.
| back seat |
| P sub |
But that might be more of a pain than its worth.
and brewboy, my only concern with the ported system where the sub fires into the trunk, and the port into the car will cause the back and front waves to cancel eachother...but this is my own theory so i dont know how accurate it is.
