Where are these wattage numbers coming in and why are you labeling an amp by them?

What box do you have the sub in? What is the rest of the system like? Have you wired for 1/0, 2/0 wire? Do you really want to stick with the Sony sub amp?

Should have kept the L7 it's a great sub.
You were likely trying to power it with a cheap fleamarket/eBay amplifier that grossly overrates its power output. And you likely had the subwoofer wired at too low of an impedance for the cheap amp you were using, which caused it to go into protect mode.
Solution: Buy the proper amplifiers for the subwoofers you have. Or if you're going to buy cheap stuff at least learn how to wire things properly.
