Sub Question
yes. it coule probably handle an amp even bigger than that actually. That wouldn't be necessary however. RMS means the amount of constant wattage a speaker can handle. But when a amp is labeled as a 500 watt amp that mean that it's peak wattage is going to be 500. That doesn't mean that it can pump out 500 watts constantly, if it was pumping out its peak wattage 100 percent of the time the amp would blow up in no time i assume. I think you'll be very happy with that set up. I have a 600/1 amp powering two 12s and its more than enough. My amp settings are not even turned up much at all and the bass is still very powerful.
if you are talking about the the jl 500/1 than it has a 500 watt rms. anyhow, there wouldnt be a problem with powering that sub w/ 500 watts. Many ppl give it even more just for head room and avoid clipping of the amp. Remember that if you want the sub to sound good you have to give it a nice enclosure also, build the box to spec.

Ya I was gonna build the box off the specs on the JL website that they list for that sub. So I will be fine with that amount of power and are you suggesting maybe adding more power.
