Strange interference sound
I don't know if this belongs in the "Mobil Phones & PDA" section or here.
I have a non-navi TSX. Over the last few months I've noticed a strange sound coming through my speakers. I don't hear it all the time, maybe every 10 min. or so and sometimes not at all. Its a series of about 10-12 low level notes lasting about 1 to 1.5 seconds total. I've heard it while listening to FM radio and again when listening to CDs. Strangely enough, I've also heard it while sitting on an airplane listening to my mp3 player over my PXC-250 Sennheiser headphones.
I think I've correlated the sound to my cell phone. I usually keep the cell phone in the "not an ashtray" which turns out to be close to the TSX's amp. On the plane, I usually put the cell phone in the pouch in front of me, right next to the mp3 player. I just realized that whenever I hear that noise, the cell phone is always nearby. I'm thinking this happens when the phone switches towers or loses the signal and has to reaquire it.
Have any of you noticed something like this? I have the Motorola V180, Cingular service. Is this just a coincidence? Can my cell phone really interfere with audio components? Any thoughts?

I don't usually have interference in my celphone, but at work, if I'm using it, it will make the phones buzz like they're going to explode if I get them too close!
But while it's just turned on without any calls, what you described makes sense; the phone only occasionally sends out a short pulse, prolly to say, "hey, I'm still here!"

That's what I figured. I guess keeping the cell phone in the "not an ashtray" is too close to the amp and yields the interference. I'll have to think of another conviniant place to store it.

All of the new GPS/GPRS cellphones, treo's, blackberries will cause this. We fight with this at office conference rooms and jokingly tell participants to check their guns and gadgets at the door...drives the Polycom phones and microphones crazy.
