I read from a car magazine that Blaupunkt came out with a super slim sub that sounds better or equally good as regular sub....Should be a direct replacement for the stock sub unit. Might be something to look into.
It's new so it's not on their website yet but you can call them ask inform about it. Get their number from their website at

you might also want to check into the illusionaudio carbon series sub....the only thing with the kicker rmb8 is that it is a mid bass not a subwoofer.....so you will not be able to get a good low freq response.....if you are interested in the illusion audio sub....you can find it here....www.illusionaudio.com.....i have email the guys over there a couple times and i think this sub would probably work they do make a sub for free air applications as well....
Illusion Audio subs are high-end but the company is no longer in business. I actually have the Illusion Audio ND12 that I am putting in the driver's side of the trunk in a custom fiberglass enclosure. Be careful in getting the ND8 as they make a sealed and freeair version. If you are replacing the stock sub or putting them in the doors, you would want the freeair version.

I have also purchased a pair of the Kicker RMB8 for use as midbasses in the doors. As was already mentioned, they are made for midbass reproduction and not as subwoofers.
Some other shallow subs to look at include the Morel WR-8 and the Morel HCW8. These are pretty highend subs in the neigborhood of $350-$400 a pair.

I've heard two different things. I heard that you can replace the sub only and add a 1-channel amp or the whole sound system needs to be replaced because it's a Bose system. Does anybody know for sure? I'm looking to add 1-12" JL sub with a H0 box with a Sony 150W Mobile ES amp.

Subwoofers usually get a mono signal since they aren't directional. Therefore, you can use a single channel amp or bridge a two channel amp into one. As far as I know you can replace the stock sub without changing the rest of the system. Just bypass the sub amp and you are golden.

with a little knowledge and a helm manual you can basicly replace any part of the bose system you feel is inadequit.....i mean if you want you can replace just the door speaker......just the headunit......just the sub.....it all depends on your preference....i mean anything in the bose system can be bypassed to get the desired effect you are looking for....just my $.02
