stock bose sub

I currently have the stock Acura/Bose system that comes with the car. i want to put in a different head unit. is it possible for the stock sub to work with the aftermarket head unit? i used to drive a lexus with a stock sub and a couple places told me it was a no-go to get it to work with my aftermarket head unit. any information on this would be great.

anything can be done... but the question would be is it worth doing... but to be honest it should be very easy to wire the stock sub to work with the after market headunit... i would think that it would be exactly the opposite of wiring the stock headunit to work with an aftermarket amp... i would think that you could use the sub out rca on the aftermarket headunit and just splice that into the input going to the stock sub amp behind the rear seat.... but like i said earlier anything can be done....

The 9" sub replacement

Has anyone replaced the stock sub with an after market unit, installing it in the same position as the stock unit

yes there has been people that replaced the stock sub with an aftermarket sub in the stock location... but most of the people i have seen have either used the kicker rm8 (which is actually a mid bass) or they have had to cut the tension bars that run directly under the stock speaker.... these bars are what keeps your truck up when its opened so you would have to customize some sort of gas strut or something to replace these bars if you decide to cut them... personally i would just throw a box in the trunk and be done with it...

I replaced the stock sub with a 10" free-air sub and did not cut the tension bars.

You can do a search for my original post for better details, but in general all I did was widen the stock hole by about 1/2" and remove a metal bar that was spot welded across the hole. That bar has nothing to do with the tension bars. I believe that bar was meant to add rigidity to the back deck. I used a 10" Pioneer Sub (look on my sig for the model number) and I'm powering it with an MTX amp (also in sig). Everything works great and sounds better than stock. It doesn't give the same sound as an enclosure, but then it's not meant to.
