stereo.......deck...?????????

Do other members have problems playing burned CDs on the stock stereo??
I am trying to get an after market head unit cuz the stock one doesn't play my cds. I went to best buy and they told me i can't put in a head unit cuz it will blow all my speakers and the bose system will not work with the head unit............wtf.......is this guy at best but retarded or ..........??

He also told me that my car was a 2002 model when i told him its a 2000.

Yeah, its a known problem with the '99-'01 and some '02 headunits not being able to play burned CD-Rs. Try burning your CD-Rs at 16x..and the person at best buy is a moron..don't listen to him. You can add a aftermarket headunit and still be able to have your Bose speakers work. And yes, your car is either a '99, '00, or '01. The '02-'03 TL models have different headlights.

P.S. Sweet car.

yea 99-2001 have known issues with playing cd-r's your best and easiest bet would be to replace your headunit with either a 2002+ factory headunit or get a aftermarket (the best choice) the factory speakers will be just fine with an aftermarket headunit, the guy at best buy is a moron

thats all you need. the metra kit (cant remember # off top of head) and a harness from a 98+ accord. the only problem is you will loose the factory sub, (as teh accord doesnt have one) you can hook up a small aftermarket amp to it and it will sound better than stock. you just heve to run RCA's and a power wire

get your metra kit from here...the model # is 99-7868

when you get it the texture and color will be off, so get some wet sandpaper 320, 400 and 600 grit and sand it down. you will get a very smooth finish like stock and get some black spray paint and put 2 light coats on it. I did this to mine and you cant even tell its not stock. looks great.

Ya I went into it not wanting to paint it, but the sanding just didnt look uniform or right to me, so I painted it to make it look smoot and uniform. and I relocated my bass knob where the empty area is by the interior light dimmer by the wheel....looks much nicer there vs. right in the middle

Cheaper kit

I bought mine here . I originally bought in from Audioonlineoutlet but cancelled when it was taking forever and I was getting little feedback from the people there. It took carstereohelp a week and a half to get it to me, but audioonlineoutlet took two weeks and csh is twenty dollars cheaper.

it says that the wire harness will not work with the bose system. Does that mean the speakers willnot work or they will and the sub willnot. how diid u rewire the sub. could you please let me know how it works and how you did it exactly. it would really help

I think they are referring to the fact that you lose the sub with the wire harness. I just got the parts on Friday. When I wire it up I'll let you know how it went.

So the install went pretty well. Sanding and spraypainting the kit made for great match! Here's a pic of the headunit installed (sorry about the camera phone quality and hairy leg ):

I tried search and could find the instructions on how to take the rear seat off. I am going to try and hook up the stock sub and amp to the non-fading output of my headunit. Anybody know or able to find the post describing how to do this? Also is the stock amp independently powered or do I have to worry about this too? And last question; do I need to connect the amp turn on lead?

hey mike, my dad and i got the same problem. i talked to a guy at a local audo shop in town and he said that if i was to get a new aftermarket headunit than i wuld have to do rewiring because the bose system will only work with bose products. For him to do the rewiring it wuld cost about 100 for labor, then he said i would need new set of speakers which is another 99 per pair for decent ones, then i wuld need a headunit which would cost about 199 or so and to install those would be 70 buks and he said the total would be approximately 500-600 bucks...well all that my dad wants is a cd changer that is not fm modulated. we just got this 2000 TL last week. And yes, the stock cd player sucks a$$ playin cdrs...it will play the song, but it will take forever to load it and it would also make noises. blah.....but anyways does anyone have a suggestion for me on the audio stuff.... i gotta 2000 TL with navigation... :smokin:

I have the same problem! I got 2000 TL with navigation and my head unit sucks. Takes forever to play CD'r. The best way is to find new or used head unit from 2002 TL and up, the one with cd changer inside. Iam trying to find one right now. Its cost about $250-450. I called dealership, they told me $850

Or you can buy the 6disc changer that goes in the trunk. That plays CDR's just fine. You can even get one that playz mp3's.

Has anyone successfully put in an 2002+ Factory Radio in a 2000 TL W/ Navi? If so please let me know how it went and the situation with the wiring harness and security codes?
