Stealth Subwoofer Control - Factory Radio
For those of you who are replacing the speakers and the amps but keeping the factory head unit, here's a way to get a free subwoofer control out of the bargain: have subwoofer amp share the front RCA leads.
In my CL, the my front leads run through a Sony XM-752EQX (which powers my sub) to two channels of a Sony XM-604EQX (which powers the front speakers). I've crossed over the front speakers at approx 80Hz to the subs, rolled the rear speakers off around 90Hz, and tweaked the rest to taste using the built-in EQ on the amps. The net effect of this is that the fader becomes a built-in subwoofer level control; set your volume level, fade to taste and you're done.
Thought I'd share this tip because a) it's cost effective, b) it's very stealthy, and c) once you get the hang of it, it's very easy to use!
Happy listening!
