Speakers

In the market for some nice speakers. Getting ride of mine because I've since added the Pioneer Avic-N1 and when i turn the volume up high speakers tend to sound like crap. Plus my top right speaker is on the way to being blown and i think my top left one is going to be there soon.

**Question is: What are some quality speakers that will produce excellent sound for a 2000 TL?**

Well, my only advice would be buy good ones the first time. (I'm on my third set in 3 months). And try to listen to them first, if you can. : )

Is it bass that makes the speakers clip?
You can turn down the bass using the advanced EQ settings.
Also, which EQ setting are you using? (powerful, natural, vocal, superbass, etc...)

OK, here's the deal:

Your AVIC has a tiny speaker amplifier in it. It probably has a maximum output rating of 40 watts or so, but this is only when lightning strikes your antenna while going downhill with a tailwind. That same amp is probably rated 18 watts by more continuous methods.

An outboard amp that's rated 40 watts, by comparison, will have much greater ability to stay strong and have low distortion when big bass notes hit.

If you get new speakers, and your new speakers don't have enough watts to play the way you want to play them (loud), then your new speakers will probably sound like garbage EVEN IF THEY AREN'T. You need good clean power to make speakers play loud and sound good, and good speakers with insufficient power (like head unit power) will not play loudly without disxtoring a good deal of the time, IMO.

Oh, by the way, your system SHOULD sound good with your bass control in the center. If you ahve to keep turning it up you need an amp and speakers, sounds like.

Definitely for the best sound you'll want an external amp. But, many people are perfectly happy with the HU and some regular speakers.

Do those people run their bass control at +6? I dunno...

Yes, I'm saying that if you buy some nice speakers and no amp, and run your bass control up high, at high volumes your music will sound for shit as you run out of power.

I'm selling some lightly used coaxials--see black market section. (Sorry for the self-serving post).
