If you don't want too expensive, don't look at JL... JL is extremely overpriced, imo.

I personally like the Pioneer TS-A and TS-C components. I'm going to be putting some Eclipse 3 way comps in my Celica this weekend, so I'll let you know how those sound.

Speakers are extremely user specific. So what I sounds good, the next guy to post may claim they sound like crap. So try to listen to as many different speaker setups as you can and then determine what you want...

Go to audio stores and listen to their equipment and see what satisfies you.

Inside door speakers are 6.5".

If you're gonna spend money the money on JL components, take the time and that money and take a look at the Rainbow Germaniums or the Hertz MLK Thank me later

This. Both of those would be awesome substitutes for JL. I would also suggest Bravox comps, but I doubt you'll be able to find any in the States, unless you're in Houston Texas...

Components for sure on the fronts.... coaxials for the rears (but really... with a good set of fronts properly powered, you dont need rears).
Please don't get suckered into buying JL's in the store. If anything order it online.... but if you're gonna order online.. i wouldn't even go JL's. FWIW

onlinecarstereo is pretty good on prices... if you're good with forums, i'd look for a dealer (new) /personal seller (used) on either diyma or caraudio forums. i picked up my hertz hsks for 240$ shipped new

Dude, have you at least tried to put in some effort to get your answers?

I'd be more understanding if it was just written specifications, but Hertz has a frikken picture there for you.

Edit: Sorry for being harsh, guess I read it wrong. A 3/4" MDF spacer will most likely do the trick. You may need to cut the metal panel a little for basket clearance.

I just changed mine out no problem. 6.5" Pioneer 3-way, fit perfect like from the factory. You will need wiring connectors.

Well thats because they have shallow mounting depths, some of the top end conponents have large mounting depths which means they need big spacers and maybe some cutting..if you just had some reference pioneers then they fit good..

Are you sure the speaker size is 6.5"?

crutchfield.com shows 5.25" for front and rear on 2nd Gen TL(S)
Here too:
http:///forums/f38/exact-size-door-s...-2000-tl-8391/

.... plus a number of other sites as well....but some people say it's 6.5"

Now, I'm confused what's the stock size really, 5.25" or 6.5"?

I'm also looking to replace my stocks with components but I don't what to install spacers.

Can someone who knows, let me know the TRUE stock size and depth of the front and rear speakers in a 2002 TL-S.

Those Hertz will be a tight squeeze in the front. I used a 3/4" mdf spacer for my Phoenix Gold comps. There might have been 1/8" space behind them. I would start with some measuring tape and the windows rolled down of course.

You guys might want to see what power he would use to power the speakers. Stock amp/aftermarket. Then you can offer the best opinion the him/her .

Not sure what you mean by top end, Pioneer does and always has made an excellent product. I've used them for 25 years and always been very satisfied. Why would I not use something thats a direct replacement for the factory bose units?

Pioneers arent a direct replacement. Bose speakers are 2ohm. Pioneers are 4ohm. You'd loose volume if you put these in.
