Question speaker size?

Hi there,

I am getting my TL stereo upgraded on Friday and was wondering what size speakers I could put in.

I have a pair of 6.5" "Autobahn" MB Quart speakers (2216CX) in my 94 Integra, and I wanted to move up to the Referenz Premium series (PSC 316) for my new 2000 TL. My installer expressed doubt that the TL stock door space could fit a 6.5" speaker, and suggested I go with the PSC 213, a similar speaker but 5.25" in size.

Obviously once he opens the door up he'll see if a 6.5" would fit or not, but I'm a little surprised that speakers that fit in an Integra wouldn't fit in a TL. Does anybody know for certain?

How about the rear speakers -- are they the same size as the front speakers in a Y2K TL?

6.5" speakers will replace the 5.25"....quite a few members have done it. Ask Stylin' Silver, he has 6.5". But, I was told that you need to make an adapter ,or something, to make the speakers sit a little more towards the car interior so that the windows will close completely (aftermarker speakers being thicker than stock).
In fact I'm replacing mine stock spkrs with 6.5" in front and 5.25 in the rears in a couple of weeks.

OK, granted that a 6.5" is doable -- question #2, what does it gain me?

In other words, compared to my current sound in a 6.5" "lower quality" speaker, would I get more from a better speaker at 5.25"?

Price is somewhat of a factor, especially if the installation of 6.5" would require some custom work. Though the 3-way component PSC 316 seems like it should perform better than the 2-way PSC 213, regardless of the difference speaker size would make.

Well, a 6.5" speaker in general is able to make more midbass than a 5.25". You will be able to cross the 6.5" at a lower frequency; preventing your subwoofer from playing the midbass frequencies.

I think that a a good 6.5" speaker should be crossover around 80-100 Hz. A 5.25" speaker is around 100-150 Hz.

thanks for all the replies!

I was wondering about the Bose subwoofer.
What size enclosure is the stock sub? I would like to upgrade it to a JL Audio sub, I find the Bose sub way too boomy/muddy sounding (if that is the right description).

Can I just swap the subwoofer component in the stock location like the other speakers, or do I need to sacrifice trunk space for the full JL Audio enclosure thing?
