Question Speaker Self Install

I know several people on the board have replaced their front and rear speakers, and i was wondering if any of you have replaced them yourself rather than having a shop do it.
How difficult is it?

Im sure the rear is gonna be a snap, but the front may be a little harder. I want to use the stock grilles to keep the stock look.

BTW im getting Polk db650 and db690. Getting them this friday, and plan on installing this weekend.

Any feelings towards these speakers? Are they pretty good?

i havent bought components for my car yet..actually i did buy image dynamic components (6.25") and was going to let the place install it but they said they'd have to make that grill stick out. in other words, it wont be flushed. im still trying to figure out if 6.25 can fit in the doors with a special ring. 96TL once posted up a link to a place that sells these rings... ill need to look into it when i buy some diamonds

6.5's will fit as long as you either use the pre-fab MDF rings or if you modify the OEM basket.

Thats what I did all you need to do is cut out the back of the white plastic holder so that the magnet can fit. I did this with the infinity Kappa series 6.5 which has a pretty big magnet and i still have my fac. grill flush.

Some speakers won't work even with modifying the factory plastic rear shield. I made my own mounting plate out of 1/2" mdf, just make if big enough to fit the speaker and with only small tabs at the corners for the screws, otherwise the door panel may not fit back on properyly.

To remove inner door panel:
1. Remove screws under the little flaps in the door handle areas (2 - Lock/handle machanism and the pull handle on the armrest of the door).

2. simply pull the door panel off starting at the bottom, then lift it out.

3. To replace, follow reverse order. Note: it is easier to replace panel with the window down, as the top part has to slide in, and having the window up makes this more difficult.

Hope that helps!!

Ive got the back in. I need to know which wire is male and which is female. There is one "plug" with 2 wires attached and one with 1 wire attached to it. They both seem to be the same sized plug though, should i just use electrical tape?

What do you mean by which wire is male and which wire is female? or are you looking for positive and negative?

I guess i dont mean wire, i mean which lead on the speaker is male or female. I guess those correspond to positive and negative. Now for the wires, which one is positive and which one is negative? Like i said earlier, one connector has 2 wires in it while the other has only 1.

That helped big time. Thanks. Just put the fronts in today, they just fit in the factory speaker basket. They sound awesome. Thanks for all you help.
Again I bought the Polk DB 690 and 650. I reccomend them!

thats a great headunit my friend has one in his integra..you should install it yourself it isn't that bad. I still need to install my hu but i havent gotten around to buying a dash kit yet It's pretty simple to remove the headunit..its just a few clips for the woodtrim but be very careful around the headunit because its really easy to break the clips and then 4 screws around to take out the unit.

Yeah, pretty simple. That whole piece of wood trim around the head unit and temp controls comes off (the temp control comes with it), then just unscrew the radio screws. You will need the dash kit to mount the radio and of course, Get the wiring harness. Also, the sound system is amplified externally so you will have to run new soeaker wires to the speakers in the car from the new headunit. You can use the factory wires for the power, ground, etc. though.

Man i wish youve waited for some one to explain, cause im stuck right there. I dont know which one is positive and which one is negative. I just got some pioneer speakers, and I am trying to install them.

I dont understand what to do with the plastic clip that has the two red wires, and one brown wire.

Can anyone please tell me what to do with it? Thanks.

But some harnesses that will fit into the factory harness so you don't have to cut the wires. I got mine from Best Buy for like $8.

Or you can just push the wires in and secure them with electrical tape....I was stuck in a shop with no store nearby and that's what I ended up doing, works fine
